    That discrepancy is definitely interesting. I would like to know what's behind that.

    My take on the Ginger vs Memphis Mafia story on the engagement is that Elvis did in fact propose to her but as time went by, his intentions to marry her waned.

    Lowell Hays is not making that up. That quote first appeared incidentally in Jerry Hopkins' Elvis: The Final Years.

    Just totally venturing a guess here but I'd say there is a good chance that Ginger decided to part with this other ring Elvis gave her which, for the sake of valuation, she (or someone on her behalf) she is claiming to be the engagement ring.
