    Talking Silver Box Set

I love this box set containing 4 cds of digitally remastered songs some are hilarious it is a great set. My sister bought it for me a few years ago in mint condition from a car boot sale and now I find out it is discontinued. I know it is a limited edition set but I am sure if you search on ebay you will come across it

I love the track "Datin" when Elvis just bursts into fits of laughter trying to get it right he just can not get the first line out after getting it wrong on the first take and says he sounds like a whino

    love it

    love and peace,
    SUSAN.

It was like the first in the new generation of releases......

I remember saving up to buy this set on vinyl...long before it was re-released on cd. Eight Lp's....man...i enjoyed playing this. Not just for the great outtakes contained...but mainly for the, at the time, unheard Dallas show.

We have had a heck of a lot of fabulous releases since then...but this one remains high on the list...due to its importance when it was released

    Hey, NightRider:
I, too, originally bought it on vinyl when it first came out. It was very pricey,
but a great set for its time. I'm not a great fan of soundboards, but I love the Dallas show.

Yes Jerry....sure was pricey but well worth every penny. I had two of these lp sets up to a couple of years ago...when i sold them both....one was all but Mint.... ....wish i kept hold of it now

It sure was a wonderful LP box at the time.
And it was the first time such a large amount of unreleased material was being released by RCA!

I played several of those LP albums till they turned grey, loved the laughing versions of Datin' and Lonesome Tonight and the "complete" concert.

I still like the CD boxset very much, though it doesn't get the playing time it deserves anymore.

I loved it too....payed about 2 and a half times more for it than I did when it came out on cd...I still have mine....and pretty good shape too because I recorded it all to cassette to save the plays on vinyl. I miss those big books that came with those special albums.

    Talking Round the Bend

The track "I'm falling in love tonight" is yet another great take when the guy starts by saying "start rolling take 1 beyond the bend" and Elvis starts giggling and the announcer corrects himself much to everyones amusement and then he goes on to the second take where Elvis just can not get it right and starts to whistle, on the third take the guy starts to then count Elvis in on the count of four when Elvis says "what no five" just love it just love to have been there.

    love and peace,
    Susan.

I miss them too. It was good when the Fifties, Sixties, and Seventies CD box sets came out in the LP size box with the full size booklets. It always seems to make the releases that bit more of a quality item. A bit lke the Legendary Performer LPs that came out ages ago too.

I had this set on vinyl and wore it out. I was lucky enough to get a mint vinyl copy in a trade a few years ago, and that has remained unplayed now that I have the CD version.

Back in 1980 this album was very big news. The album’s that had been issued prior to Elvis’ passing hadn’t offered much in the way of new material with the exception of the 1978 release “ A Legendary Performer Volume Three”, and suddenly with this release we had an abundance of new material in very nice package.

I remember Radio 1 previewing the album and playing numerous tracks including the live “T-R-O-U-B-L-E”. I taped the show, and I couldn’t wait to get a copy of the album after that.

    Remembered with fondness

The 1980 25th Anniversary Silver Box Set is one which is remembered with fondness. A Box Set that covers a very wide spectrum of events in Elvis' career. We have been treated to a number of such releases over the passed twenty years, but this one will always have a special place reserved for itself just like this deserved thread.

The 1961 Hawaiian Benefit Concert is a wonderful record of early fan hysteria albeit not in great sound quality but a treasured listening keepsake. The other highlights for me include 'The Vegas Years' and 'The Lost Singles' as well as the popular 'Elvis in Concert' segment from on tour May-June, 1975 with a good portion of the soundboard coming from the Dallas show.

    A wonderful listening experience.

    silver box set

this is one of my favorites of all the box sets.the dallas show is definately one of the reasons to own this set, but lets not forget the benefit show in hawaii in march 1961. 2 great live shows on one boix set.

I also have this on vinyl, and it is one of my favorite box set's.
I also have a big poster on this album.

Love this box set. I actually only got mine in the last six months or so...I may have to pick it up on vinyl too.

I love the diversity. To me that is the ideal box set--like Platinum. What a monumental release this must have been in 1980! And even today, though plenty of the tracks have been featured on subsequent releases, it is still an amazing collection of material.

Among my favorite parts (even if there's nothing groundbreaking about them) are Lost Singles & Elvis At The Piano, but the whole set is fantastic.
...you won't forget me when I go.

I have never picked up this set in CD form, because I still have my original vinyl.

This was INDEED an INCREDIBLE release back in the 80's.

    I still love it.

It came with a great over-sized booklet, color photos on multi-colored individual record sleeves, and each record had EP's autograph etched into the vinyl trail-off area.

As a kid, it sure thrilled the heck out of me on many levels.
