This is no surprise to me

Michael Jackson's estate is predicted to make more money from licensing and merchandising deals than any other celebrity in 2010.
A survey of almost 1,000 industry experts - commissioned by Brand Licensing Europe ahead of this month's show - found that Jackson will overtake Elvis Presley as the highest earning dead celebrity, while also knocking aside of host of living stars from Hollywood, sport, fashion and music.

"It's not surprising Michael Jackson topped our survey," said Jessica Blue, BLE event director. "According to Forbes magazine, music and memorabilia earned the singer's estate £60 million in the six weeks following his death - almost double the £32 million that made Elvis Presley the highest earning deceased celebrity in both 2006 and 2007.
"But this is a mere drop in the ocean compared to what he can make on future licensing deals if his legacy is managed properly. This is a brand that can be applied to multi-category, multi-territory deals."

No surprise. There are more kids today and they have more $$$$ to spend.

Jackson will probably be No.1 when the next Forbes list comes out.
But only for 2010.
Then, Elvis will of course reclaim the "top" spot.
Unless Madonna, Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger cark it.![]()

This is no surpise to me![]()
The hype and media coverage were unprecedented for Jacksons death-and Joe Jackson even tops Col. Parker in sniffing out money.
The prime concern of the elder Jackson from day one has been "securing the money and ways to make more"
I mean they put a gold crown on MJs coffin-a real heartfelt touch-which shows the love of....................................gold.
The internet and the speed of worldwide communication has helped sell MJ merchandise in a way that was not even thought of in 1977.

No matter what way I try to look at this it still seems like an awfully strange kind of an honour to recieve..... the "best dead..." anything is a dubious title to have!!
Lets see if MJ is still Top Dead Celeb Earner in 2 years time...I doubt it....and lets see if MJ home.will be ,,,,,,,,like Graceland....the 2nd most visited place in the States ! I doubt that as well....

This 'competition' about wich dead earns the most is ridiculous and it only shows how wealthy their heirs can get to be. No one can take Elvis' place in music history and that's what matters.

I agree-I would not downplay MJ and his talent in the least-but I think the ability to buy a download of an existing album in a matter of seconds-does give his passing a little of an edge on sales in 1977 and also any MJ related product-just go to the internet and you have a MJ memorial T-Shirt the next day. So much easier to market and sell compared to 1977. Plus I wonder how the figures hold when adjusted for inflation and population compared to 1977.
The total figure for sales of Elvis related product the year after he died is just an educated guess-but MJ should be documented pretty good considering the computer age.
But I agree MJ was a hugely talented special person.
