Okay...so he`s got the new record for number one albums....doesn`t neccessarily mean anybody`s actually listened to them more than once.

It's funny to me how a lot of fans will make excuses when a record of Elvis is broken by someone else. I was just reading an excuse on EIN.

Fact is Elvis and RCA had several oppotunities during his career to get more #1 albums but they blew it and now rapper Jay-Z holds the record.

I say Congratulations to Jay-Z for this trememdous accomplishment.

I must say I never thought anyone in this era would break Elvis record of most #1 albums by a solo artist because all the recording artists of today will release CD's so infrequently but Jay-Z has released a lot of albums in a shorter time period which is unusual.
Since that's the case I want to see if he can break the all time record by the Beatles who have 19 #1 albums.
I doubt it but you never know.

I think its a shame.
IMO I doubt that JayZ is in the league of an Elvis or The Beatles-but he comes from an era where albums are the thing-not singles.
The fact that Elvis held this record so long-even though for the bulk of his career selling singles was the point of recording.
Elvis comes from an era where the majority of kids did not have record players so in order to buy records they first had to get players(and If I recall correctly the sale of them went thru the roof after rock exploded)My grandma in 1956 would not allow my aunt to play her Elvis records on her player. She played them at friends houses until she saved the $6.99 to buy a cheap 12 inch by 12 inch player-(that she still owns but it does not play)
Sure records like this are going to be broken-but its not the same for each generation-and even though its not -Elvis still holds records, Elvis still is measured against the "new greats" and that is a record in itself.

I don't know who Jay-Z is, period. I'll have to read about him to know who he is and I'lll have to go to YouTube to listen to any of his music - which I won't because I simply don't enjoy that type of music. I don't have the time or the inclination at this time to learn how to measure that genre/style. I would if my son asked me to, but so far he hasn't.
I do know that all records will be broken in time, by people we admire or by people we don't like at all. And now who will break Jay-Zs record? And will it be soon or in 30+ years?

As debtbbruno said, who will remember him in 30 years when a lot of people don't even know him now.
