I personally liked all the haircuts.
I also liked the Aloha cut that Patti did.
I thought Elvis' army cut was hot, too.
Dunno what Elvis thought? lol![]()
I know all through the movie years Elvis mainly had shorter hair and no sideburns but did he actually like long hair better? I guess around 1968 he grew longer hair and it stayed long until his death in 1977. I liked his Army haircut alot did anyone else like him back then alot with the Army cut? But if anyone knows which hair style he liked the best please let me know thanks alot your Elvis friend Gerald!!

Elvis probably liked short hair for himself since he had short hair.
I didn't like Elvis hairstyle in 1976 and 1977
I think Larry Gellar was responsible for that
I liked his hair best in '69 and '70

Well as a teenager and through the 50's he had (for those days) pretty long hair, he manage to grow back his pompadour anytime he had the chance while in the army, and grow that thing amazingly longer than in the 50's as soon as he got back from the army, although the sideburns where gone.
Then Hollywood came and thats when we start seeing Elvis with shorter hair until late '67, and from '68 he wore it longer each year so... really can't see where your comment comes from.
I LIKE MUCH HIS HAIR IN THE ARMY WOW AND IN 68´COMEBACK SPECIAL AND 69´
He didn't wear his hair like the average man from the 50's but Elvis hair was pretty short.
I'd call Elvis hair long if it went down to his shoulders, past his shoulders or to his knees or spine or buttock
He didn't grow it all that long if you think about it was always fairly short in length.
I like Elvis hair cuts in-1955,1956,1965,1967,1968.1969,1973,1974,1975
Elvis IS on record telling many times to his audience (Vegas '69) how his hair DO WAS considered too LONG for the day back in the 50's, and he liked it that way, ergo...
I wasn't born by then, but looking at pictures of how young guys in the 50's used his hair back then (not to mention older people), and even fellow rock and rollers, not to mention crooners the like Pat Boone, Elvis hair does looks considerably longer.
You got to put it in context man, nobody in the 50's used it down his shoulders.
Now by the late 60's and early 70's, sure, he wasn't a character at the Woodstock audience right? but still, reviews of his '69 opening in Vegas do recall his new longish hair, now longish it might be not long as hippy lenght, but still it is not short length in any way, short is GI Blues, and there is a difference.
Now when you look at pics of his Nov '70 tour, could you really call that a fairly short hair?
Anyhow, who might be a crazy fast driver to you, well he might be thinking of your unbearably slow driving so... If you think Elvis hair was short, its all right with me, to me Elvis do not had the longest bangs in rock and roll, but he definitively was not a guy of pretty short hair to me, as you imply. (except for his Hollywood days and the Army of course)
So it is relative, right? but if I might share my opinion, your standard its a bit ridiculous: to call Elvis hair long IF it went past: man, by those standards even a '69 Lennon was a crew cut!

A lot of young men back in the 50's had a crew cut or buzz cut
Yes, Elvis hair was long for that time period.
Elvis hair wasn't long for the 60's, 70, 80's, 90's or by todays' standards
that's what I was referring to.
Elvis whole career was through the 60's and 70's and we are discussing this in the year 2009.
Sometimes Elvis grew his hair out longer and other times he didn't but to me his hair really wasn't all that long.
I'll get a haircut and then sometimes I will wait 5 or 6 months to get another
Then when my hair does get cut i'll get it real short
before I get it cut again it grows out longer than Elvis' hair length
When I said if Elvis grew his hair down past his shoulders that would be long.
but Elvis never did that.
it was just an example.
if Elvis ever grew his hair past his spine at that point everybody would say man get a haircut.

He had amazing hair and all styles were becoming short or long ! I think he tried short or long depending on what conditions demanded , but he had a preference for long hair. And he looked great with his long hair ! wish he could grow it even longer , ofcourse with 68 or 69 sideburns !

He was the firstest with the mostest.
See no point in compare his hair by any standard post '77.
For the late 60's and 70's, his hair wasn't that long compared to younger people and the hippy culture stuff that dominated the rock scene. But compared to average people his age, Elvs hair was longish enough to not call it: short hair. Even more there is to notice, compared to all of the surviving 50's rockers and musicians of his generation: his hair was definitively longer and much more contemporary looking.
So as I said, take any pic of his No'70 Tour, or even '69 or around the time of the Aloha show, sure, compared to the younger generation of rockers, let's say Robert Plant or Jimmy Page, he didn't get the down passing his shoulders look, but compared to the rockers of his generation, lets say Jerry Lee, or the late Gene Vincent, or any movie star his age or older, or just average everyday working people of his age, he definitively had a much more longish messy hair look.
So I'll just say, Did Elvis like short hair or longer hair better? due to the fact that he did definitively had longer hair than average people and than any other contemporary rock and roller during the 50's, and that "among the people of his generation" he had longer hair during the late 60's and 70's, he did like it longer, not real long Willie Nelson style, just longish and messier than regular cats.
You cut it real real short? and in 5 months you got hair longer than let's say, L.A. Forum 1970 Elvis? Pass the trick man, I'm serious.

The thread didn't specify what you should compare Elvis hair length to
so we were comparing it to different era's and to different people
but you say nothing past 77 okay that's fine.
now we have a benchmark.
back in the 70's I considered Elvis hair to be a little shaggy looking
in the late 60's and 70's I always thought he was going for a more contemporary looking hairstyle like he had in Change in Habit.
I don't remember people really commenting on his hair length back then (late 60's)
The people I hung around with back then had hair that was just a tad shorter
So I'd say Elvis hair was a little long but not overly long.
I think your point about Elvis liking his hair longer is right because he didn't wear his hair as short as he could've.
Yes, I do have have hair longer than Elvis did at the Forum at 1970 when I let it grown for a few months
The key is to have a good barber and say you want it real short in the back and real short in the front.
They cut it and you come back in 5 months and it's real long again.
I loved the longer hair on elvis, i think he did to because he had it long untill he died...i didnt like his hair short in some of his movies it just didnt do it for me. i think loking back he got his hair a certain way and he stayed with it.. through the 60s it was a bit shorter then the 70s but i liked it..

Brain,
you do not know very much about Elvis do you?
Last week with the Gladiators dvd you missed the point. And now again.
Elvis liked hair long. He had it that way in the 50's and again in the 70's. And it was pretty long in the te latter 60's.
It was his personel choice you know. So in other words...he probably did not like his hair short.
Thanks and God bless
I always read that he liked long hair (or what was considered long hair for men, not talking shoulder length or anything!)
I personally loved his hair in the army, but also liked it in the 68 Comeback Special.
He had his hair long in the 50's (compared to all other guys his age) and then had it shorter for the film years as that was in his contract (saw this on a programme) and once he was out of his film years he grew it again with the extra bushy sideburns as it was in the 70's.
Looking good bald?? Well, i don't know. Interesting for a modified pic.
Maby someone could make it.
68/69...........definitely prefer sideburns too
Too bushy, hair and chops 72 onwards. Nice for Aloha, tamed it in. Grew too long again after. Chops eventually took on a life of their own!!!!
