I just love the way all these bands and solo artists are compared to Elvis in popularity when it comes to being an icon.

I'm So Sorry this is lengthy but I just could not let them say that about Elvis. They want a comparison, here it is.

"Michael, unlike Elvis, had a lot of talent?" Even though when I was little I was impressed with Micheal's voice,in his Jackson 5 days, and still now but that is what always stood out to me, his Singing when he was younger and his dancing is what stood. I wasn't even surprised at that MTV BIlly Jean dance he did, cause it was common knowledge that he could dance.

    Talent List

[Elvis Presley_Note that in the days of Elvis growing up there wasn't any video tape machines, home tape recorders or internet. His source was his radio, records, movies theaters, church, clubs, Beal Street and some TV. Elvis also didn't have a family member who had some knowledge of the music business and was self disciplined in learning. That's not to mention the fact that, when Elvis started out he took a lot beating for singing in a way that wasn't excepted by the general audience-

1_Creator of a Music Style that was never heard: ROCKABILLY.

2_Contributed to the development of, Rock n Roll music, so much that no other artist of that era came close to the sound of his early RCA recordings also Dubbed the KING OF ROCK N ROLL, by the fans and the media. Also singing different styles in their original form. Blues, Jazz, Gospel, Rhythm and Blues, Ballads, Raga, Opera, Country, Blue Grass, Urban, European, Spanish, Italian, German, Christmas and Folk.
ESTABLISHED BALLAD SINGER_While being known as a Rocker, he then shocks the world by singing,LOVE ME TENDER, on national Television. The general public, even non-Elvis fans, love it and Elvis went on recording beautiful ballads. One of his greatest achievements, It's Now Or Never.
ESTABLISHED GOSPEL SINGER_even though in the days of Elvis, Rock n Roll was no where to be seen as a category at the Grammy Awards but Elvis get's three under, Gospel. How Great Tho Art, LP, He Touched Me, LP and How Great Tho Art, single.
Elvis' voice gets more Powerful and Refined with age.

3_ACTOR_ For a 21 year old who's never acted in Hollywood before, Elvis stars in his first move, Love Me Tender. In the movie industry producers are usually afraid of letting first timers take the screen for a full feature movie. Fearing that they can't hold the public's attention for that long. That was the least of Elvis' problems, in fact it became the downfall for his dreams of becoming a serious actor. Taking advantage of selling a soundtracks and they even use Elvis to invest in bigger budget movies that don't star him. Even so, Elvis proves he is worth the investment and the producers sign him up for a total of 31 movies and 2 documentaries. Before Elvis, there was no guidelines to go by in a way Elvis was the first Pop star and is often used as lessons kerned of the do's and don't's of the business..
But Elvis did rack in the tickets and soundtrack sales and proves to be a great actor by the time he makes his forth movie, KING CREOLE and is noted as a good comedy actor for his work on, Follow That Dream.

4_REINVENTING THEMSELVES_His 50's image, what was considered then, long Sideburns, & long hair, Pink Jacket, Gold suit is traded in for his Army Uniforms. I know it was standard but they used this image over and over throughout his movie career. Then after his return from the Army. His image is conservative and very clean cut. Then Elvis shocks the public in 1968. He drops his commercially accepted image and dons a Leather suit. 1970 the public sees another new Elvis in a documentary, That's The Way It Is. He's now in a White Karate style Gi, Jumpsuit. His hair and sideburns longer. Other than his early 50's image, this will be the image he's recognized for most.

5_PLAYING INSTRUMENTS_Elvis played, Guitar, Bass Guitar and Piano. I know fans on here know this but most are under the impression that Elvis faked playing the Guitar. We see him playing Guitar in the 1968 special, acoustic and electric. He played bass on, 'You're so Square" and went on to study it in the mid sixties. We have home recordings and see Elvis playing Piano on Change of Habit, briefly on That's the way it is, out takes and 1977 Rapid City, Unchained Melody.

6_WRITER ARRANGER PRODUCER_ Elvis is credited for some songs in his career but he mostly came up with the concepts of a few and his friends would complete them. Their names are on the writing credits as well. Arranger, his whole career from day one. Producer, noting the producer wasn't a must to put on LPs until late 60s but Elvis gets credit in his last two LPs.

9_Dance Style_Elvis known for his shaking of the leg and body shifting, Inspired by the Black artist' of that time and was old news for the Jazz Scene but Elvis made it world wide. Elvis was most remembered for his Jailhouse Rock dance in 1957. in later years it's all about Karate style moves but still the leg never stopped shakin'.
    ----------------------------------------------------------

    Talent List

Micheal Jackson- Micheal's father was involved in the music business and coached him every step of the way in fact beat him till he got it right. Micheal had guidance and access to a tape recorder before stardom.

1_Creator of a Music Style that was never heard: None

2_Contributed to the development of_Motown AKA Rhythm and Blues, Ballad, Inspirational (non-gospel), Jazz, Blues, Christmas, Disco and Dance Beats also mixing Mixing Rock with Disco on the song, BEAT IT. Having Eddie Van Hallen play guitar on it.Dubbed, The King Of Pop, by his friend, Liz Tayor.
ESTABLISHED COMMERCIAL POP SINGER_Micheal broke grounds with his stage act from the time he stepped into public eye. He was dubbed, Little Man, by newspaper cause they couldn't believe that was a kid singing but to be honest to me it was all reminiscent of, Frankie Limon when he started out. There really wasn't any ground breaking new sound other than the beat that doesn't take away from the fact that Micheal can sing but as he gets older, the power notes and the focus of impressing the audience comes from the production of the show more than his voice. He doesn't mature as a vocalist. In fact he takes the back seat when it comes to singing.

3_ACTOR_ Other than revolutionizing the MTV Video industry with his Thriller video, with a cool story line and high dollar production there is no real acting going on here. No producers would ever think Jackson's acting could hold the attention of a theater audience for 2 hours unless it was a documentary and constant dance going on.

4_REINVENTING THEMSELVES_The Jackson 5 image and sound was already established by other Motown artists. THRILLER, zipper jacket and high water pants, Jerry Curl hair and Let's not forget the Glove after that the BAD image but it looks very close to Thriller and he's not black anymore. He's a White Man with thin hair. The Fro is gone. Stage act the same except he grabs his crouch constantly. This is at a time when he's marketing himself to the younger audience.
Micheal gets whiter and his nose disappears with age and ends up being very grotesque to look at at times.

5_PLAYING INSTRUMENTS_Never seen Micheal play an instrument. Seen him poke at a piano note but never a complete song or even a melody, my kid could do that. He claimed he makes beats with his mouth and sounds that's how he writes.

6_WRITER ARRANGER PRODUCER_ If Micheal wrote all the songs he says he wrote, he surpasses Elvis in song writing. Arranger, I would call it even but what LPs or projects are remembered more? Elvis was very involved in the early days and Memphis sessions in the late 60s that produced lots of hits.

9_Dance Style_VERY ESTABLISHED DANCER, yes, and extremely talented in his moves. Very creatively took the JAILHOUSE ROCK dance production and build a whole Concert theme around it. But was it him or Modonna that started this? Chicken/Egg question. All pop shows today copy this format. The MOONWALK, I know he made it popular but growing up in the ghetto, I remember seeing kids that where break dancing and would do this move and Micheal was even giving them credit when he first did it. Still Micheal made it what it is today. Micheal would out dance Elvis any day but Elvis was never a dancer, he was someone who moved when he sang with the music.

That is the dumbest article I've ever read. I was sure to leave a reply to the article to make them understand that Elvis was the REAL KING.

Sorry Elvis, Michael is the real king
    (Source: AP)

After Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, he became the biggest entertainment icon ever. However, he has been overshadowed by Michael Jackson, who died on June 25, 2009. Michael is now the real king.
Perhaps part of the reason for this is because Michael, unlike Elvis, had a lot of talent. Michael Jackson might have acted strangely (and in some cases, pathetically) but he was able to sing, dance, play instruments and write songs. Elvis did the same things, but came across more as an amateur.
Perhaps the myth and legend of Elvis is starting to fade away just as it is with Marilyn Monroe. They were icons for years after their deaths but as time went on, their myths started to come apart. Michael Jackson will be remembered long after these two.

I think that nothing can compare with Elvis because no one can understand him !
