I don't support illegal music sharing on the net, period.
I do support illegal music sharing, I've been ripped off enough.
I don't feel good doing it, but I won't miss certain stuff just because I don't have the money.
Who cares about it's illegal if it might show who's Elvis to millions of people.
Today, it is common place to download music from the net. Either you do it legally on the I Tunes store or something of the like, or in the not so legal ways: Torrent searchers, Music sharing blogs, etc.
This thread is to discuss about the illegal ways, but not to promote illegal sharing as its against this forum rules, please do not post any links to any of those sites or make a direct reference to them while the discussion goes.
So all kinds of music can be found to download illegally from the net, and so the search key words: ELVIS PRESLEY, will deliver to you a big amount of stuff to download right? How you all Elvis fans feel about that?
On one hand it does tell me a positive thing, and is that there is a demand of Presley music somewhere right? Yet, how bad do you thing this is for the actual sales of Elvis record catalog either from legal download or the actual good old plastic box containing a CD?
From one side we could argue that illegal music sharing affects Presley sales as it does affects every artist. On the other hand we could argue that times are changing faster that the actual recording industry can handle, and the fact that most of Elvis music (and even movies) is illegally available on the net, its in a way beneficial, not for the business, but it could be for getting a total new audience in touch with Elvis, introducing him to new potential fans, that in other way would not be interested in him as they don't feel like spending $29 bucks on a boring greatest hits repacked CD that might turn out disappointing. On the net, otherwise, they could get for free some more obscure material just out of a curious impulse, (and that's the thing: you won't spend a lot of money out of mere curiosity) and then there you go, the magic happens and there is a new generation of fans, that then might start buying the stuff.
That was about his BMG/FTD official catalogue, now for the hardcore fans, illegal bootlegs are a long time story for us, and its something that its been happening since back in Elvis times. Now, their sale or trade being illegal anyway, how do you Elvis fans feel about these new culture of net bootlegging? and the whole array of music blogs devoted to sharing Prelsey (or any other artists) rarest of the rare boots?
Drop your views then.

I voted "I don't support illegal music sharing on the net, period." I do believe that is wrong, but to be quite candid, I also know that in my own case - I'd be the one who is caught and prosecuted! No really. I do have an interest in the many Elvis Bootlegs that are available. But, I don't own a single one. I'm trying to wrap my thoughts around why it's really wrong. Simply because it would have taken away income from Elvis? From different accounts I've read, he didn't really have a problem with it. His fans were still buying from RCA.
I wouldn't buy any movies illegally off the net only because the quality - in some cases is so poor. I would never buy any bootleg movies - even for the chance to watch before everyone else - that sort of thing is just not that important to me. I am outraged at the prices of FTD's and other merchandise offered from EPE and I don't quite understand how/why they make deals with WalMart & Target to put out Elvis movies in 4-packs for a minimal charge yet offer one Elvis movie from their site for $30-40! There is nothing on their pack - no interviews, no extra movies, no home movies, no "Director's" anything. They can't claim the market would be oversaturated with Elvis merchandise- don't go there YOU with the Elvis celebriducks!
Just pretend, I'm holding you, and whispering things soft and low.
And think of me, how it's gonna be and just pretend I didn't go
I am sorry this thread is now closed.
