Thread: Elvis and Ali

    Elvis and Ali

came across this story on a boxing site. I've heard it before but never had it verified.

    [Muhammad Ali and Elvis Presley

Elvis came to my training camp in Pennsylvania, stayed two weeks.
Nobody knew about it. One night I said, 'Elvis, do me a favor. I got a guitar. Please come with me down to Pottsville, little town nearby, this redneck place called poonies.' I called the owner, told him to let us come in the back door.

Elvis went up to the mike, towel over his face, took it off" - and here Ali imitates - "'You ain't nothin' but a hound dog, cryin' all the time.”
Then we flew out the door again.

Can you imagine bein' in a little one-horse town and Elvis Presley runs on stage? Man, people ran all outta the place lookin', gettin' in cars, tryin' to find us.
Elvis said 'Champ, I've never done that before in my life']

It's a cool story if true.

    Anyone got the facts?

I ran across that many years ago and also wondered if there's any truth in it. It does seem far-fetched that Elvis would have gone to a training camp in PA with Ali for TWO weeks. I've never seen this mentioned in any of the books I've read.

I hope someone here does have the facts on this. Maybe someone should ask Ali....

Unfortunately, on alt.elvis.king you can't do key word searches anymore (so I can't provide the reference); however, I recall Marty Lacker replying to this statement, and he said (in his own unique, ,way, lol ) that it isn't true.

Here I was, a little, girl (watching butterflies and frogs, ), as well as watching Ali with my grandfather, and lovin' it.

Ali was the greatest, a fantastic entertainer, too

I don't know that he (Ali) was the best boxer, he certainlt maintained his good looks. A lot went against him burning his draft card. Not everyone knows it's the only reason he changed his name to Mohamad Ali..religious protest. Or whatever?
Regardless of this, Elvis liked Ali very much, they clicked...both had personality plus..I was told this story is God's truth. Did I see it, no. Do I believe who told me, yes. : )

I think the only time Elvis and Ali met one another was in Las Vegas in early 1973 that's it.

Ali was a fan of Elvis and has said his favorite song is Don't be cruel while Elvis was a fan of Ali's and had a robe made for him to wear.
(Ali wore it once lost the fight and never wore it again)

The story about Elvis going to Ali's training camp is B.S.

It just doesn't work, which is a real bummer!

Perhaps, as the site has only Trolls on it now, it's been archived by Google. Every key word you put in, even one's own name, it comes up with it's not there grrrrrrr such a shame!

Interesting statement, who are these Hollywood friends and family and are they on the record as stating such.

I would Imagine if Elvis was there for two weeks it would have been almost impossible to not have had a photo taken, even if it was Ali himself?

Of course you would ask this and I don't blame you at all..some have ask me to leave their names out.. My Aunt Pat Whiffing, was married to two Hollywood producers, and one Director (famous ones) I have friends, who are famous, and who loved Elvis. Some have since passed.
Aunt Pat was the hairdresser on Gunsmoke, for years. Also "Have gun will travel" She was the one who took me to the filming of the worlds fair..in 62 and I was able to meet and sit with Elvis.
I have never met Mr. Ali but someone should indeed ask him. That would clear it up.
I understand that you cannot just take my word for it. As you don't know me, my family or my friends, but please do believe I am a nice lady and do not ever mean to fabricate anything I pass along.
I've loved Elvis since I was 8 years old, I was lucky, I got to see a lot of him through the years.

And we have a winner, ladies and gentlemen. The Ali story is absolutely pure B.S. and has been discussed here (and debunked) before.

Ali's a great storyteller (or was) and this is one of his great fabrications.

    It never happened. Period.

They only met in person one time in Las Vegas, NV in February of 1973. They never met at any other time. The 'training camp story is B.S. and I doubt that they even had phone conversations.

I was going to say the same thing, Getlo, but rather than turn this into a nasty thread I'll just stay out of it.

    Re: Elvis and Ali

The Ali story about the training camp is just a story that has taken on a life of it's own. It's a nice tale that just gets passed around as fact.If Elvis went to that camp for two weeks he must have went by himself and kept it a great secret.Just use common sense and logic when evaluating these stories.
