The Last Farewell ... by Roger Whittaker or Elvis ?
This for me is one of those rare occassions when i find the original almost as good as our mans version, when whittaker sings it i seem to visualise the ocean waves, the ship, better somehow. But when i hear Elvis's version i seem to focus more on the story, the heartbreak etc, i guess no one puts quite as much emotion into a song than the King.

Both men did a really good job on the song but I'm gonna be biased lol in my opinion where I think Elvis' version is better. This was one of my favorite Elvis songs from the late seventies.
I loathe the song - always have - and never listen to any version of it!
Getlo - cute'n'cuddly
Of course it's the Elvis version for me.![]()
Not a fan of the song per-se, however I do prefer Elvis' version. It's all about the emotion he puts into a song, nobody does it better

Got to be Elvis version - no comparison!
Sorry, i don't like either version.
I love Elvis' version... Getlo are you an aussie? just curious because if you are I would totally understand you loathing it, it was shoved down our throat here when I was a kid in the seventies, RW's version that is...we had to sing it at school even...b.o.r.i.n.g.!!!
I like the song, especially Elvis' version!
I like both versions and I agree with dennyelvis.

To me, the Whitaker version seems more believable, since he was a British singer, making the lyrics a bit more acceptable.
Elvis probably liked the old versions and tried it. Indeed not one of his better recordings, but he did what he could with it.
If forced to listen to this song I would go with Elvis.Having said that,I wish Elvis never would have recorded it.For me that song represents the wrong direction he took with his recording career.Still I know many people who like it.
