Yeah, that's what I think too about MP3 files and the same happens to me with pictures, I want to have them on paper.

Oh what I wouldn't give for one of those old gramaphones. I always thought they looked so cool!

I have a growing collection of CDs specifically so I can listen to Elvis in my car but my large collection of vinyls are still my treasure. I'm on the hunt for an old 60's Zenith sterio cabinet that I saw on eBay a while back but it was too far away in Maryland and they didn't deliver. By the time we paid for gas and motels, the cost would have been way out of line...oh well, sooner or later.....

I would like to collect all of Elvis releases on vinyl on cd; but I haven't so far.
My cds are mostly the masters sets and the compilation sets. I have enough
cds that I can listen to Elvis quite a long while on cd. But, I miss listening
to the records just as they were on the original releases.

I remember back in the day you bought Vinyl records, the experience went a little something like this:-

    1. You went to a shop, you browsed the LP's, now these things were 12 inches long (obviously before metric) a picture on the front of these babies was massive and could be a deciding factor when buying (shallow I know).

    2. You took you purchased Item home in a big bag waiting in anticipation of what you might hear!

    3. You got home, you removed the disk which was protected by a dust cover sheet (usually white) sometimes their was a poster included inside, I remember buying double dynamite which was a double album which had a poster of Elvis from flaming star

    4. You held the black vinyl in your hand a flipped it over both sides checking to see if there were any scratches or dust.

    5. you placed the disk onto your player and set the correct speed 33RPM. Before you put the needle to the record you got your dust cleaner, applied it gently to the vinyl giving it the once over, just to make sure the needle wouldn't jump unexpectedly.

    6. you could here the needle drag across the plastic briefly before the music played, I used to lay on my bed and listen to the whole side before carefully turning over the LP and playing the other side.

That's how I got to hear and learn Elvis songs, NO I didn't like every song, but I listened to a whole side, took the rough with the smooth and some of those songs I didn't like grew on me (some didn't).

I'm not against ipods or MP3 Players per se, but believe that there is a disadvantage to being able to skip to the next track in a heartbeat if you don't like the intro. I have an Ipod and love it to bits I have 170 Elvis Albums on it which can be anywhere in the world with me which is a fantastic achievement.

I miss the rituals of the vinyl age, it seems like everything is done on-line these days, you can buy one track and ignore the rest, you are sat at home looking at a computer screen without interacting with human beings. I used to save my money and look forward to the journey going to town, going to a record shop that only specialised in records, leafing through the albums talking to other customers etc.

I sometimes wonder if concept albums like 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' by The Beatles would have been the success it was back in 1967 in a modern era, 'Sgt Peppersl' told a story and each song could be considered an Important piece of the puzzle?
I'd prefer an Ipod. The days of being able to purchase vinyl records in shops for me are not a time I can remember. I only remember as far back as cassettes. I bought my fair share of those although over the years several of them have been stolen from my collection.

I do have some Elvis records, mostly 45s with a couple of 33s. Most of them though along with the record player was handed down to me from my father.

For purchasing Elvis stuff, I'd go with cds over buying itunes and other down-loadable purchasable music. My reason though is because you get the bonus album cover which is left out usually when you buy Itunes and Mp3s.

The reason I like my Ipod is because it's music I can take anywhere I go. And my Ipod is loaded with lots of Elvis music, and videos among other things. I've got about 5 hours worth of video watching and over 40 hours of music listening which makes it the ideal entertainment I can take anywhere. My Elvis tapes now are getting very worn out as is the cassette player in my old car. With my Ipod it's so easy to plug into the cigarette lighter and get great sounding music and playlists whilst I drive with much better sound quality these days.

So I suppose I'd be more likely to purchase cds but I'd listen to my Ipod more than I do the actual cds I purchase. Well... If that makes sense lol.

Everything that plays Elvis is good.
Let the stars fade and fall, and I won't care at all, as long as I have you.

I have always loved the Cd's still do.
But now I am fixing to get the Ipod classic 160 gb for Christmas, and have ripped all my current elvis cd's onto the computer and going to put them onto the Ipod. it's good I think as you can buy the Ipod home and listen to it out loud or on headphones. But I still buy Cd's just going to put them over onto the ipod once they come.
