We will miss you dearest friend
Bought my copy yesterday !! All I can say it is truely wonderful !!!!
America has contributed four things to the world that are really unique: Baseball, Coca-Cola, Mickey Mouse and Elvis Presley. And only one of them is human - - Jerry Hopkins - "Elvis" - A Biography.
Received mine today, magnificent! If I had enough money, I'd buy about 10 copies and give them away as presents, it's that good!
yeah it is a great package and The music is AWESOME.
But what exactly do you mean by "better"?
I have a great stereo, and I can't see how digital remastering - again! - of such tracks would be all that different.
And, even though I have all the outtakes on bootlegs - the set is a rip-off considering there's nothing unreleased on it, IMO.
Getlo - cute'n'cuddly
The set is great and a must for those getting to know Mr. Presley and their Elvis CD collection is about some great hits compilations like Second to None, or thematic stuff like any of the many Country, Love Songs, or gospel stuff.
It is not intended to surprise any die hard fans as most of us in this forum that sickly collect any outtake containing Elvis burping before someone says Ok this is Take 12.
These are just masters takes, the album will stand out well in the catalogue along with the Elvis at Sun or Elvis '56, for starters that wants to go beyond compilations and go into a certain period in Elvis career. (Although yes we already had Sunrise and Suspicious Minds with a deeper look on that period, but hey that was a decade ago)
For something new, we got FTD, and I'm hoping for an Elvis in Memphis on the classic albums editions on a near future. Hopefully, as Im NOT at all buying these new memphis anthology.
Yep certainly am, sounds like it will be great....
Im still debating it.I also wonder just how improved the sound is.I will probably get it "just because".Nothing wrong with supporting "new" Elvis releases.I only hesitate because I have the material on so many other releases.
You're right to be suspicious. 'Remastering' has become a device for marketing back-catalogue with no inherent guarantee of improvement in the sound.
Strictly-speaking, there's as much chance of it sounding worse as there is of it sounding better, given the nature of the mastering process.
The promotional stickers should probably read 'Remarketed'.
While it is generally a good idea for old records to be mastered again for optimum quality on a new format, like CD, to do so yet again is really just mucking about and a transparent attempt to make people buy the same thing twice. Or three times.
One thing which modern mastering technology has done successfully is to make records 'louder', but I'm guessing you already have a volume knob on your stereo, right?![]()
'Taking Care of Beaulieu'.
I'm still going to buy it, of course![]()
