Post Hi! Any volunteers to help in Language research?

Hi All!! I hope you don't mind me joining the forum

Although this topic isn't totally about Elvis i thought i'd post it here.

I have a request for volunteers for a small project.

i study english at the University of Malta. we're doin' a project where we study how people speak. i thought of getting Elvis involved into it. but i need a few volunteers from different countries.

an american, an english, a french, a german and any others are welcome

what i need is a recording of you singing a song (i think it will be the wonder of you for linguistic reasons) and maybe a recording of you reading the lyrics. you don't have to speak perfect english and you can remain anonymous - this is not a singing contest but a study of how people speak english differently in different countries! hope someone can help me!

so if there are any interested please contact by email or post a reply!

Thanks!! Love u all!! and sorry for the long post!

... gordon... i am indonesian..but i dont have accent as i sing or speak...

...it sounds like you would have 'World Idol' singing contest in your house or something ..

i cant promise anything but i'll try if i can find some websites where indonesian people singing/ read some lines in english....and you could download them online..

what do you say to that ?

i think that would help - i don't need a worldwide source - i'll just pick one example from four or five different countries, so if the text/song would be the same for everyone, i can analyse the changes in what we call 'accent' from country to country

I am originally from India, the accent and style of the English language changes every 300 to 500 Kms (or 250 Miles ) over there .So there would be no " typical Indian" accent - despite Hrundi Bakshi( starring Peter Sellers in the movie "The Party" )It would also depend on the type of school the person went to : where English is the primary language of education or taught as a second language.

There are 15 official languages in India, over 50 Major languages and over 1000 dialects! Today there are, apart from the local languages, even French and Portuguese spoken (and upto a few hundred years ago even Dutch !)

A South Indian from Kerala would pronounce " simply " as " Zimbli" : another from the Tamil region " Simpally" an East Indian " Simbly" the Northie " Sample"......and on and on

I have travelled and lived in many parts of the country, that my accent is hybrid and most people cannot identify/ place me with my voice! ( I can also do a very convincing, clipped British accent as also a US " Yankee" and the Southern drawl - ya'll know whacha mean ?

So all things considered, I shall pass on this research( besides my manager will not let me speak without charging a fee)

    Good luck.
