Thread: Elvis' Hair

    Elvis' Hair

I have read a lot of reviews of Elvis' later concerts that, of course, have to mention his weight, but also mention that he is balding. I also read that Larry Gellar said that Elvis was losing his hair. I have never seen any picture that supports this and was wondering if anyone has such a picture. Larry really seems to be loyal to Elvis so I can't imagine why he would make this up but to me Elvis had incredible hair right to the end. Could be another BS story to try and knock Elvis again. Does anyone have any insight on this? Thanks.

It was slightly receding towards the end, as happens with most men of that age.

And his hair was certainly thinner overall than it used to be; from all the years of dyeing it.

But to say he was actually "balding" is probably pushing it.

Larry actually said Elvis had "fine" hair which doesn't mean thinning.

It can be thick, and fine, too, Shelley. Mine is like that. Lots of it, but the hair itself, is fine.

Shelley and cbg84, What if you throw a lot of conditioner into it, and leave it there for a day? Does that help? Make your hair all soft and manageable?

    Re: Elvis' Hair

What I do have learnt is that as back as 1968 his hair started greying, just a little bit around the sideburns and sides, but by the last two years of his life it was actually much more than that (family thing, just check out Vernon's hair), that's one reason he relied on the dye so much and we never ever saw Elvis wearing his natural dirty blonde hair ever again.

About balding, as Getlo put it, it my be true that his hair line and thickens was not the same it used to be in 1968, as it happens with lots of men around 40's, but to say balding, is going to far. Who knows, we needed another 10 years to to see if that was actually starting to happen or not.

Aging, what a dragg, I'll be 30 next year.

Did someone ever notice where was John Lennon's hair line by the time of his dead? (he was 40, Elvis was 42) Long hair always hides quite well a receding hair line, hard to notice, but Elvis, I don't think was already an issue of concern.

Larry Geller said to me some months ago - when i met him and his wife - that Elvis' hair was strong and just perfect up until Elvis' death. But in 1977 Elvis' hair had completely - according to Geller - turned grey or even white. And if you look closely at some of the photos of 1977 you can see that at least Elvis' sideburns seems white under the black hair colour.

    Re: Elvis' Hair

I've never believed Larry's account of visiting the mortgue and putting mascara on his roots as he had an 1/2 inch of re-growth showing. If Elvis was due to do on tour again that afternoon he would have had his hair and sideburns touched up, he wouldn't have got on stage with 1/2 inch showing.

IMO, it was about time he let it grow out or started having it done lighter. His skin was too pale, and the dark hair emphasised it.

I think Elvis had a **** good head of hair at 42. Not all men lose their hair at that time. I'm 48 today and still got a good mop on top
