I'm Also Fan Of Orbison (Like Elvis)
My Choice Is Orbison For This French Song "What Now My Love" Orbison Version Is Famous !
I would like your opinion as to who does the best job of this song. Although I am a big Orbison fan I think Elvis leaves him cold.

My Choice Is Orbison For This French Song "What Now My Love" Orbison Version Is Famous !
It's very hard to make a choice about the best version of this song. It's recorded by too many (Gilbert Becaud, Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra,...)
Only limited to the two possibilities you offer here, I would say Elvis' version. I can't explain exactly why, just for personal taste.
"If you're an Elvis fan, no explanation is necessary; If you're not an Elvis fan, no explanation is possible.“
(George Klein)
As a French, I love this song by Becaud. Orbison's version is really good. That's the first time I listen to this version. But Elvis' version is much more impressive !! I know that Gilbert Becaud liked Elvis' version of his song very much. Elvis also sang "Let it be me" from Becaud and he wanted to offer Elvis another song but I don't remember the title. Thanks Cliff![]()

Elvis Presley like always is the best in my ears because I have always think that he can sing all songs more better that other.
Elvis Presley you always win in my eyes and ears

I prefer Elvis' version because as much as I love Orbison's voice, I find his version too clipped.

Big Roy Orbison fan here too... but on this track Elvis wins hands-down... Elvis` version is just more emotional and "real" than Roys` version.... and the backing on the Roy Orbison version is way too karaoke to my ears!! Thanks again Cliff!![]()
I love Roy also-but his version seems lifeless-constrained and unfortunately slightly "tinny"
I like Elvis's version because it is so emotional-and his voice plays the highs and lows so much better on this song than Roy.
I actually rank the Aloha version as one of the best vocal performances Elvis ever gave-technically and emotionally.
Work in Progress!
Without a doubt Elvis' version "kick's butt." I didn't even finish listening to Roy's version of the song.Sorry Roy.

I like Roy as a singer , but Elvis's version is more impressive ! he puts a lot of feeling in his songs ! Elvis's version makes me so emotional that my tears fall down on my cheeks ........... His voice is exceptional !![]()
He was the firstest with the mostest.
I like Roy Orbison very much, I like many songs from him, and his version is really good, but I think Elvis felt this song more deeply, he put so much emotion in it. It makes me cry. Amazing performance!!
I LOVE

This is really only about Elvis & Roy. No doubt the artists you put forward do a great job in their own right. But, to watch and listen to Elvis sing this you feel he is living this song. He is feeling every emotion. Watch his face. Watch his eyes when he sings "If I should die". Sammy Davis? Frank Sinatra? Sorry,no contest.
You know their is a misunderstanding with regards to Elvis and Roy Orbison
When Elvis was introducing him from the stage in Vegas in 1976 he said Roy Orbison is one of the greatest singers in the world.
Since that time however Elvis has been misquoted and now people quote him as saying Roy Orbison is the greatest singer in the world.
I certainly could name a couple singers who can sing better than Roy could Elvis included. Also Elvis was a lot more diverse he could change his voice to suit any particular song or style with Roy his voice sounded the same on any song.
I have always wondered how Elvis would have sung ''Only the Lonely'' Roy Orbison originally wanted to pitch the song to Elvis before he ended up recording it himself.
I wonder how Elvis would've done it had he been offered it.
I wonder what Sonny and Cher's version sounds like?
