How many people would be able to name five Elvis Presley albums..original albums? With many artists there is at least one big album that everybody associates with them.... Bruce Springsteen`s "Born in the USA", Pink Floyd`s "Dark side of the moon", Bob Dylan`s "Blood on the tracks", The Beach Boys` "Pet Sounds".... It seems to me that nowadays all you ever hear about from Elvis is the big "Greatest Hits" collections like "HitStory" etc..... and sadly, here in Ireland at least, that is about all you see in the music stores.

It's fair to make this statement

i've been saying the same thing for years that Elvis was a singles artist
there is no shame in that as many artists are in fact all the singers from Elvis era were singles artists. Despite the fact that throughout his career Elvis made many quality albums he has always been promoted by his label as a singles artist.

When saying Back in Memphis is underrated and underappreciated I mean it doesn't get the respect it deserves even from the die hard fans they rate FEIM and other albums much higher while never even giving BIM a mention.

Of course there is no shame in being a "singles artist" in the eras before 1968-because that was what all artists/record companies were targeting-hit songs for radio airplay. The fact is albums were not even around until the late 40s-and record companies wanted hit singles even after the album gained acceptance. The fact that Elvis sold so many albums in a period where singles were promoted first and foremost is a credit to him.

I agree with Brian that other albums like BIM do not see to get the notice of FEIM-but I think the reason for it is that FEIM was out of the box first-and it does have killer sides on it. BIM was part of the double set-and the live cuts got the notice there. It does not mean BIM does not have great music on it.
