It sounds very scary. It is on the news even up here where I live constantly. I know it is bad but I think the media is really frightening people. I wonder if it is as bad as they are making it out to be. I hope it is not! I really think that sooner or later we will be hit with some major disease that will take a lot of lives. I hope I am wrong. With so many people travelling today the world is becoming a lot smaller!
It is scary, but also I hope it's a wake-up call so that they can somehow take precautions before things like this end up being worse than they should be..
I also think the media makes it sound worse, Kim. It reminds me of the SARS scare that happened just over 5 years ago...the news showed some Canadians wearing masks and next thing you knew everyone thought all of Canada wore them...that wasn't the case!

It's a total beat-up, like SARS a few years ago.
A few hundred people dying is nowehere near a pandemic or epidemic.
Thousands still die of normal flu every year, and you never hear anything about it.
Don't worry about it; it'll be off the news very shortly.

Maybe Wendy can tell us how it is in the streets of Mexico City...
I recall the 76 "swine flu scare" my wife got the shot for it (I did not) because it was suppose to kill millions and be viscious. It did not turn out that way and the vaccine which was given by President Fords orders to millions did more harm to many than good. So lets hope this is much ado about nothing.

Sometimes the political types need to change the subject when we are yappin' on about something they don't especially want us yappin' on about. Like, say, Air Force One upsetting the New Yorkers...or Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano making snafu after snafu....so if opportunity knocks to get a certain subject(s) OFF the front page...government folks and media types are glad to jump right on that pig.

I was told that Mexico City is being reported as a ghost town at present, which isn't apparently true, all is going on as per normal.

We hear Mexico is closing all public gathering places, the enclosed and hot sub-way, with bad ventilation, where four million people who can breath on each other and touch where others have touched ride daily, is left open.
It is reported that the schools will be closed until the 5th May. Is that when the virus will be over?

well i must eat my words on this one..i went into work today only to be told a young girl of 12 has got swine flu... she is recovering but the school has now been closed for 2 weeks!
