That was an excellent article. Very heartbreaking to read. I hope Elvis finally is at peace and has the happiness he so deserved. Thanks KPM.
Really interesting article.

The link doesn't work?
The link worked for me earlier today but now it's not working.
interesting article thanks for posting Ken
According to Jerry Schilling Elvis would've lived longer had he toured overseas and made A Star is Born is 1976.
I agree with Peter Guralknick though that it wouldn't have solved all his problems.
It's not working for me, either..
I get this message below, whatever that means lol

"Gossip is small words from small minds" Elvis Presley
Looks like flying Dutchman Parker was Elvis' enemy after all. It seems Elvis worked his butt off but never really felt acknowledged for anything. Except the love he received from his crowd while performing, that kept him running.

I disagree with that statement by Jerry. Even if Elvis had made "A Star Is Born" (which, looking back now, I'm glad that he didn't do) and done an overseas tour, things would've changed - but only for a very short time because Elvis needed a continuous challenge - and this wasn't being provided to him at this point in his life. Elvis was on a downhill slide that no one could stop but he, himself.
Yes Elvis was the kind of person who needed continuous challenges to keep him motivated but it was certainly nothing to be ashamed of, it was part of his basic make-up and he was not the only person who needed that.
I guess it doesn't matter how often some of us stress that people who have an addiction DO need help from others and that Elvis did not get the proper kind.
Diane
So why did he need a continuous challange-what in his personal make-up made him this way? If he did not even realize he needed a "huge challenge" for motivation how could he address this side of himself? People are complicated, masses of reason and feelings-and they are not always in accord with each other. Its much easier to see the short comings and failings of others-than to see and understand your own. Elvis was no different-nor special in this regard.
