    murder of Theo van Gogh

I was totally shocked when I heard this morning that controversial Dutch filmmaker and writer Theo van Gogh had been murdered in Amsterdam. What is this world coming to

R.I.P Theo ... I can not say that I ever really liked your shock-approach to life, but at least you spoke out on what you believed in.

You'd better say that he's been slaughtered

Theo van Gogh (family of the famous dutch painter Vincent van Gogh) was a controversial writer of columns, books, essays and producers of movies. He always thought that people should be able to say what they want.

Because of political correctness people (and politicians) didn't (or don't) recognize muslim fundamentalism as a threat to society. He hated this pc attitude of the big politic parties and said that this threat would become bigger and bigger as long as you're not allowed to talk about it.

A big friend of him, Pim Fortuyn, was started his own political party to change this way of protective thinking. 'You can't fix things by simply ignoring it' was his motto. This party was heading for a huge election victory. But days before the election Fortuyn was murdered.

Today a muslim fundamentalist slaughtered van Gogh. While Theo was riding on his bike, the killer shot him Theo with several shots. Theo tried to escape and stumbled across the street. The killer followed and shot him again. The he stabbed him with a big knife many times. Then he pinned a letter with the knife to chest of Theo. According to witnesses the killer waited next to the body to be sure that Theo was actually dead. He also cut Theo's throat.

Then he tried to escape. After a huge gunfight with the police he was finally captured.

Where's the world heading to? Who runs the world nowadays? It seems like we've been captured by fear......

By the way, the terrorist attack in Madrid was 911 days after 9-11. The murder on Van Gogh is 911 days after the murder on Fortuyn. Weird....

Your right Buttonhead it had to do with the movie Submission.

I'm still in shock, it is horrible that you can get killed because of what you say. And the way it was done, horrible. There is a small group of people that is very dangerous and are destroying our society, way of thinking and how we want to live with eachother. I hope we find away to prevent this.

I agree with you Dessy. I always thought that respect would do it, and I do respect other people their opinions, believes and ways of living, better yet I enjoy all the different cultures in our society and it makes me sad that there are people out there that want to destroy that, along with freedom of speach. But maybe we should also see that not everyone else respects us, or our opinions. The letter stated that they wanted to kill all not believers, I can't find any respect in that statement. And let me be clear, and as said in my first posting, it is a small group that thinks that way, and I dont wanna point fingers to a whole group or a religion. Lets face it every religion or strong philosofy of life has known/knows it's extremists who believe they have the truth on their side and that they have the right to kill for it. That's wrong anyway you look at it.

Agree with you Annie...as i said before noone had a right to took someone's life...no matter how wrong that person is or was, no matter how different they look at some religion/ philosophies are ...i think that there is always a better way to speak our mind when we felt something was wrong ..the worse thing from this extremists (bad apple) are they only give some good people in there group a bad name...

Yes I think so to, it is a shame that this extremists are giving the other ones in their group a bad name.

Theo was extreem in his way of speaking (to everyone even some of his friends), but he had the courage to show how some of the people are treating their wifes because they think it is allowed by their religion. I think that is a good thing. The killer was known by the police for domestic violance, and other acts of violance.

I think it is a good thing we can talk about it this way Dessy. Thanks.
