clip from 'CBS Elvis In Concert'

I have uploaded a nice clip from CBS Elvis In Concert. Since there are so many versions of this special circulating, I'd like to nail down the best one.

Does anyone has a better looking version than this one?

    THAT LOOKS AWESOME ALBERT!!!

I have a copy of the show on DVD, that I bought from the U.K. through an auction on eBay (thanks to Bobby for pointing me in this direction!! ) which is, to me, about on par with the quality of your footage here.

THANKS A MILLION for posting your clip Albert!!

    TCB!

This one is just a VCD (that I received from a good Elvisfriend -thanks Rene-). The problem with these things is that these are circulating with so many different covers. You never know what to expect.

The Omaha and Rapid City shows aren't just as good.

These are pictures and a soundclip from the Omaha outtakes that I currently have. The soundclip is taken from the actual VCD's (pretty good and even better than the released import CD from these shows).

    THOSE OUTTAKES LOOK SHARP ALBERT!!!

I actually have 2 DVD's with the outtakes on them....one of the DVD's is the one that has the CBS Special on it that I mentioned in my other post above.
While the actual special on this DVD is as good as I described above, the outtakes are not nearly as good...average at best.

The other DVD I have also has both the outtakes and the special on it, and on this one, the special itself is average while the outtakes are above average. BUT I haven't seen ANY DVD's with outtakes in as good a quality as the ones you posted!!! They look FANTASTIC!!!!

I guess there's something wrong with my player, then, because the picture is superb but the sound is very crappy, in and out, and too slow

    Thanks anyway for sharing

The sound is too slow? I've never heard of that before...

The sound quality on the DVD's I have of the outtakes vary, with Rapid City being better than Omaha. But neither of the outtakes are as good as the CBS Special itself. I doubt that there is a copy of the outtakes out there with perfect sound quality (especially since there were sound problems in Omaha to start with).

Although I am certainly not a DVD player expert, I would be concerned with the sound being too slow....

    Albert, Mike,

What would your advise be for me: where to look for a DVD/VCD with the quality of the clip Albert posted with How great thou art. I do have a DVD called the CBS Outtakes, but the quality can not be compared. I'd kill for a complete disc with the abovementioned quality

That's the problem: there's totally no structure in the various releases of the CBS special. One time someone sells his outtakes and makes his own covers, the other time he simply uses a cover that he finds on the internet, while the other time it's a real bootleg release (on pressed, instead of burned cd's/dvd's).

The versions that are offered on Ebay don't have any samples, so it's hard to tell which ones are good.

Would it be an imposition if I asked where you got yours?

Well, I played it again today and it played much better i.e. normally today. Wow, thanks, that IS a great clip I guess my real player was on the blink yesterday

Some questions/remarks though. I don't know about the rest of you, but the audience shots of his last "filmed for TV" special have me unsure on how to read the expressions on the faces of the people.
Some seem hardly interested, bored even. Some seem genuinely worried. Others seem amused at moments when I don't see much reason to be amused. Some have expressions on their faces that, for lack of a better way of describing them, look like they're almost hoping for him to pop a vein during his performance or something. Like the Romans watching the Christians before the lions in an arena

I know some is of course due to editing, i.e. placing the audience shots in the wrong spot so it seems their reactions are inappropriate for what's going on on stage at that moment.

    Anyone have opinions on that?

Many expressions are not necessary in cue with the actual song that you hearing/seeing. Many times one camera only records the audience so that they can mix it in scenes where they (the producers) want a view on the audience.

But besides the fact that the audience reaction in reality isn't recorded at the same time as you see Elvis singing, there are just a few reactions of great admiration.

Some reactions seem stupid, but that can be because of bad editing. But in fact, the reactions are like they should be: unbelieve, pitty, bored, in awe and sad. The shows weren't good, Elvis could hardly speak and he looked very bad. Don't forget that the stage was much better lightened than normal because of the cameras being present.

I agree 100 % - the best way to tell what version you have is the menu - Blue menus or graphic one. If we had a way to post all the different verions we can them give them assigned numbers by the way the menu looks. If would be a way of distinguishing the different versions.

    what do you think -

That thing has been edited so much its not even funny. It might have even been sped up in places to make room for more commercials. I overlaid the CD In Concert of the video and it always wanted to get off about every 2 minutes - which is crazy..

As Albert pointed out, the quality of these bootleg DVD's vary quite a bit. But, the copy that I bought came from eBay....the seller's ID was eap101. If you do a search on eBay looking for auctions from that seller, it will list all of the items that they currently have for sale. I just looked for you, and he doesn't have a copy of the CBS Special for sale right now. But, if you look periodically, hopefully he'll offer another one soon. The copy I bought was a 2-disc set, containing the CBS Special on one disc, and the quality of the special appears to be just as good as the clips that Albert posted! The menu for the special is well done on this DVD also....very cool. The other disc has the outtakes and they weren't as good as I had hoped they would be. (I have another DVD from a different seller, and the outtakes on that one are better (although the actual special isn't as good)).

So, check out eap101 on eBay, if you are interested!

Hope this helps you out....and GOOD LUCK!!!

    TCB!

It's difficult to gauge the crowds faces and when it was filmed because at the end of "How Great That Art" Elvis received a tremendous ovation. Thanks for the post Albert!
