    Gang,
I actually think it needs to be a single CD so as not to dilute the Blues feel.

The following tracklist seems perfect & comes in at just under 80 mins.
(unfortunately it has to be the 5 min 'Merry Xmas Baby' but the flow & feel really works

    1. Reconsider Baby
    2. One night of sin
    3. I feel so bad
    4. Milkcow Blues Boogie
    5. Lawdy Miss Clawdy
    6. My Baby's Gone
    7. Like a baby
    8. Down in the alley
    9. Give me the right (Tk.2)
    10. Trying to get to you
    11. It feels so right
    12. New Orleans
    13. Santa Claus Is Back In Town
    14. So glad you're mine
14.High Heel Sneakers (version from So High FTD)
    16. Big Boss Man
    17. Baby What You Want Me To Do
    18. When it rains it really pours
    19. Mess of Blues
    20. After loving you
    21. Clean up your own backyard (undubbed)
    22. Power Of My Love
    23. My Babe
    24. Steamroller Blues
    25. Stranger in my own home town
    26. Merry Christmas Baby

Happy, I mean sad & bluesy listening

    Cheers

    What A CD!!!

Jesus, Piers, what an absolutely incredible, awesome tracklist! My mouthwater is threatening to ruin my keyboard right now!

I have to admit, that trimming down from my original tracklist to just one CD actually makes it a more even listening experience.

A cover for this fantastic set, anyone?

Perhaps it should be followed by a rhythm'n'blues compagnion? I think I'll have to start working on that one tonight...

Some days ago I trimmed down the tracklist myself to a one CD version:

    1. Milkcow blues boogie
    2. Mystery train
    3. Fool, fool, fool
    4. So glad you?re mine
    5. Anyplace is paradise
    6. When it rains it really pours (RCA-studio)
    7. Santa Claus is back in town
    8. Trouble
    9. It feels so right
    10. Like a baby
    11. Reconsider baby
    12. Give me the right
    13. Down in the alley
    14. Big boss man
    15. Baby what you want me to do (68)
    16. One night (68)
    17. Lawdy miss Clawdy (68)
    18. Clean up your own backyard (undubbed)
    19. Stranger in my own hometown (undubbed)
    20. Power of my love
    21. My babe (69 live)
    22. See See Rider
    23. Got my mojo working (unedited, undubbed)
    24. Stranger in my own hometown (70 rehearsal)
    25. Merry christmas baby
    26. Steamroller blues
    27. Tiger man (75 jam)
    28. Shake a hand

This has a few differences from yours, but the similarities are bigger - and, really, I like yours a lot better! (h)

    TCB,
    Jakob

    Hey JB -

Definitely great additions to your collection with TOMORROW and SANTA CLAUS!! But, if it were me personally, I don't know if I would tamper with removing NEW ORLEANS and/or TROUBLE from the collection....those are definite blues songs, if I ever heard one!!! (h)

Any other songs on your list that might be not quite as missed as NEW ORLEANS and TROUBLE would be?

Just my opinion on NEW ORLEANS and TROUBLE....but I am glad TOMORROW is making its way to your tracklisting!!

    EXCELLENT TRACKLISTING PIERS!!! :worthy:

For a single CD release, that would be almost perfect!!! But I still can't help but feel that TOMORROW IS A LONG TIME would be a good fit for a blues album....what do you think?

But, if RCA were to release a blues package with this tracklisting, I would buy it in a heartbeat!!!

    Smile the elvis blues collection

hey jakob that sounds like a really great cd. great track listing. i would have used the memphis 74 performance of steamroller blues rather than the jan.12 version. to me march 20th 74 sounds more bluesy than jan 12. otherwise great job. :

Guys I went a searching my cupboard and what do I find ? Another version of a blues compilation that I had made, it goes like this :

1 Baby what you want me to do (68 stand up ver)
2 Stranger in my own home town(Undubbed)
    3 Tiger man
    4 High Heel sneakers
5 Wearin that loved on look
    6 Reconsider Baby
    7 Long Black limousine
    8 Big Boss Man
9 Clean up your own backyard
10 Down in the Alley (from TTWII - rehearsal)
    11One night of sin
    13 I Feel so bad
14 When it rains it really pours
    15 Tomorrow night
    16 Lawdy miss clawdy
    17 A mess of Blues
    18 Like a baby
    19 Hard Luck
20 All I needed was the rain
    21 What'd I say ( rehearsal ver)
    22 Trouble
    23 New Orleans
24 Thats all right ( TTWII rehearsal ver)
    25 It feels so right
    26 Beach boy blues
    27 Merry Christmas Baby
28 Baby what you want me to do ( Alt from CG)

Did anyone notice that " Heartbreak Hotel" is missing from the set lists ? ! I had a version from Las Vegas Collectors Gold I think that has a really bluesy Piano in my draft list of tracks.I ommited it as Elvis plays slightly with it towards the end and laughs ditto for the TTWII and some other versions.

I am thinking of ommiting Thats all right for the poor sound quality,What'd I say ( sound) New Orleans because some it does not " jell" while listening - and of course I want to change some of the track order......I do not want to go chronologically rather something that grabs me.

Incidently I am trying to compile a 10 to 12 track sampler from the Memphis 69 sessions for a music freak who is familiar with the Sun Sessions but nothing else....

    Hi guys and girls

Another wonderful collection - perhaps we should send all our tracklists to BMG/RCA...

Actually, 'Heartbreak Hotel' was on my original 2 cd set, which started this thread. I used the alternate take from 'Elvis 56', but there's also a fantastic live version on 'Electrifying' which has the roughest, bluesiest Heartbreak-solo ever played by James Burton!

JB, where can the rehearsal-version of 'What'd I Say' be found?

Patrick, I really like your cover! One of your best, I think. Fancy doing one for the 2 cd set, too?

It's on Platinum: A Life In Music too. If you don't have it, talk to Santa.

Jakob, in case you were thinking it was from the VLV sessions, it's a rehearsal from July 1970. There's a pretty funny ad-lib: "Hey, mama, don't you treat me wrong. Put your dress on, go on home, all right..."

You can play a clip below.

    Ooops....

Lonnie & JB, thanks for the help! I don't know where on earth I put my head when I asked that question - I have both 'Cream of Culver City' and 'Platinum'

I think I was thinking something about august '69 rehearsals, because the live version of 'What'd I Say' that I used is from that period. I think there are a few low-fi rehearsals around, but I don't have any of them...

Perhaps I just need to turn in a little early tonight

    TCB,
    Jakob
