Thread: Your own Custom Concert

    Your own Custom Concert

Here's a challenge to get everyone thinking.
If you could make the set list for Elvis in a certain year, what songs would you include.
    Rules.
    1. assume the average concert is 18-22 songs (to average about 1 hour)
    2. keep in mind the published songs available up to that time (songs from the past at that time are eligible).
    3. At least 5 songs not known to be performed by Elvis are to be included.
    4 Reasons for your choices.
    5. You can make an assumption as if Elvis was in decent health, and lived past 1977, if you wish.
    Looking forward to your input

    James.

    Ok...
    Here's my version:
Live at the Wembley, London, 1978 10th August. He's healthy, off of drugs, back in shape, his hairstyle is about the same as in 1969-70, and wears two piece type suits just like he had worn in 1972. The concert is recorded and shown on TV. Tracklisting is the following:

    2001 Intro
    See See Rider
    I Got A Woman
    Burning Love
    -Guitar off after Burning Love

    Love Me Tender
    Heartbreak Hotel
    Jailhouse Rock
    Paralyzed
    Are You Lonesome Tonight?
    Follow That Dream
    In The Ghetto
    Viva Las Vegas
    Fever
    Suspicious Minds
    Always On My Mind
    Moody Blue
    Teddy Bear/Don't Be Cruel
    Way Down
    Just Pretend
    Pledging My Love
    Promised Land
    An American Trilogy
    Big Hunk O'Love
    If I can Dream
    Mystery Train/Tiger Man
    Lawdy Miss Clawdy
    Can't Help Falling in Love

Nice line-up. I like "It Hurts Me" in the line-up. He could mention that Charlie Daniels just recently had a hit with "Devil Went Down To Georgia", but here's a song he wrote for me 15 years ago. I would have love to hear a 70's/80's version of Peace In The Valley with JD Sumner taking Ray Walker's part. I believe Crying would have worked as his "new" single - I have read several reports that Elvis Loved that Song, and that he actually considered it for The Jungleroom sessions.

I think this is a well thought out event. I like the pacing. I've heard Orion's version of Crazy little thing Called Love, and love it, so I can't help but believe Elvis version would be even better. I never thought of Southern Nights, but I'd love to hear Elvis' version. I Can't remember if Glass Houses was released by this time, but after Elvis introduced Billy Joel, I would have love to hear 'It's Still Rock And Roll To Me". I would love to hear the story he preface She Believes In Me with.

    Great work!

Great show!. I'm not sure about repeating That's Alright (you might have a good reason), but I might like to substitute Milkcow Blues Boogie with Elvis doing the same slow false start to explain the sound he was looking for. I love the way you've put the show in segments.

What I'm finding amazing is that almost everyone has the time, circumstances, and details in mind for their concerts. It's great that the thought is being put into this!
I'm also finding interesting that all the concerts are within the first decade of the timeline of "his passing as we know it". Keep it up everyone - I'm enjoying every minute of this!
