    Underrated 60s songs

ELVIS RECORDED MANY GREAT SONGS IN THE 1960s WHICH ARE VERY UNDERRATED AS SOME WERE REOCRDED WHILST ELVIS WAS STILL RECORDING MOVIE SONGS. HERE ARE SOME HIDDEN GEMS:

    IT HURTS ME
    ASK ME
    SUPPOSE
    INDESCRIBABLY BLUE
    TOMORROW IS A LONG TIME
    THERES ALWAYS ME
    LONG LONELY HIGHWAY
    JUST CALL ME LONESOME
    NEVER ENDING
    COME WHAT MAY
    THRILL OF YOUR LOVE
    RECONSIDER BABY
    LOVE ME TONIGHT

THERES A JUST A FEW OF MY FAVOURITES. ITS A SHAME THAT SOME OF THIS SONGS WERE STUCK ON B SIDES AND NOT GIVEN ENOUGH ACCLAIM.

I have been on an early 60's kick recently....all the wonderful songs he did at that time show his wonderful pure voice....There's Always me, Ask me, Gently, Fountain Of Love, Soldier Boy, Thrill Of Your Love, Sentimental Me, Echoes of Love, I Met Her Today, Easy Question, Never Ending, Love Me Tonight.......his voice just wraps round me like chocolate velvet....

I think many of his movie songs are underrated

Some I really like are, for example: So Close Yet So Far (from Harum Scarum), In My Way (from Wild In The Country), Tender Feeling (from Kissin Counsins), A Little Less Conversation (from Live A Little Love A Little), You Don't Know Me (from Clambake), Let Yourself Go (from Speedway).

I think many others can't be consider underrated but real gems as INDESCRIBABLY BLUE, ASK ME, NEVER ENDING, SUSPICION, IT HURTS ME!

Actually I think that he should have stayed away from the Rodgers and Hammertstein songs. I'm not a big fan of his version of You'll Never Walk Alone either. I grew up on Rodgers and Hammerstein and as much as I love Elvis, he just didn't have the voice style to pull them off. Elvis was such a wonderful and great talent and singer and there is none to comes close to having what he had, but with Rodgers and Hammerstien you need a more classical sounding voice in which I felt Elvis lacked while singing those songs.

I personally think that the songs that have been mentioned on here are underrated as well. And as soon as I think of a couple of my own I'll post it.

There's a zillion songs from the 60's that don't get enough credit. Charro, Soldier Boy, Do You Know Who I Am, and countless others. What some people forget, was that Elvis was the second to the Beatles in sales for that decade, not too shabby for someone who was perceived as wasting his time in Hollywood!

THIS IS TRUE THE FANS WERE STILL BUYING ELVIS' RECORDS WHEN HE WAS MAKING MOVIES IN THE MID 60s. FOREVER LOYAL!! I LISTEN TO ELVIS' MID 60s RECORDINGS ALL THE TIME. I THINK THE RECENT FTD RELEASE "MEMPHIS TENNESSEE" WAS AN EXCELLENT RELEASE. IT IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES. I ALSO THINK HE DID SOME VERY GOOD MOVIE SONGS IN THE 60s SUCH AS "TENDER FEELING" AND "YOU DON'T KNOW ME" THESE ARE TWO OF MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE ELVIS BALLADS.

I understand how you feel about "You'll Never Walk Alone".
The reason I like Elvis's "You'll Never Walk Alone" is exactly the reason you dislike it-the singers who sing it straight as it was in "Carousel" sing it technically perfect-but it is sterile to my ears-it lacks soul and feeling. The emotion that comes forth is just not there- at least to me. But even though Elvis's version is far from technically perfect-ibut t delivers what I just do not hear in most technically trained voices-down to earth emotion.
    Just an opinion.
    Work in Progress!

I think many Elvis songs from films are underrated-especially certain ballads.
"Tender Feeling" "Home is where the Heart Is" "I Need Somebody to Lean On"
    Work in Progress!

    Exactly, KMP ... exactly.

If you're attached to a more "classical" style of singing, at least, where Rodgers and Hammerstein numbers are concerned, then I can understand Elvis' approach not working for you.

On the other hand, I find it hard to believe any Elvis fan could seriously disavow such impassioned, gripping performances. Elvis gives "If I Loved You" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" his all.

For what it's worth, I hear more than a hint of classical breath control in "If I Loved You", too. The way he holds the falsetto note at the end is quite beautiful and unlike anything else I've ever heard him do.

I'm a fan of Elvis and really love his music, like I said he was a wonderful and great talent and singer and everything. It's just I don't like how he does Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Understand your feelings, as I said some prefer the trained voice for this type music.

there are some that should have been singles, the magnificent It Hurts Me being the most obvious. Who decided to hide that classic as a B-side??? Criminal

    .
I have heard that Elvis rendition of the song wasn't inspired by Rodgers and Hammerstein version but more by Roy Hamilton's version of the song.

I've always thought that "I Need Somebody to Lean On" from "Viva Las Vegas" should have been bigger than it was.
