And I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why (extra emphasis on why) it would cause riots.

And yes, recording while sitting in a bed is completely different than recording while lying down on a bed.

In Elvis Day By Day page 218- it states that Red West did take his vocals to the songs "Indescribably Blue" "Ill Remember You" and "If Every Day was Like Christmas" to Elvis in a motel on Saturday June 11th 1966-and it says Elvis went to the recording studio on Sunday June 12th 1966 and he spent half an hour recording his vocals for the songs in the studio.

Studio Session for RCA, June 12, 1966

    Studio :
    RCA Studio B, Nashville, Tennessee

    Producer :
    Felton Jarvis

    Engineers :
    Jim Malloy

    Indescribably Blue (v.o.)
    TPA4 0982
    June 12 (Sun.): 19:00 - 22:00?

    Take 01
    Complete
    3:00
V.O. of track recorded on June 10

Elvis may have worked on his vocals in the hotel-but the finished vocal was done in the studio.
