Do you think we would all feel the same about elvis if he didn't look the way he did

hi guy's , i was just watching double trouble. and my girlfriend could'nt get over how good looking he was, she is not even that much of a fan. but she said he was one of the most handsome men she had ever seen . which leads me to my question. lets say elvis didn't look loke he did , do you think all these years later we would all still be here talking about him. now granted his voice was amazing... but if he looked like an average joe would he still have the magic that he has today. i think that has a lt to do with the whole package. women loved his looks, and guys wanted to look like him . take a guy like roy orbison, he is also one of my favorites but he was not a great looking guy like elvis was. then on the other hand, ricky nelson was a good looking guy. but he had an average rockabilly voice similar to carl perkins. give me your input. i'm curious what all of us think. i'm going to go watch spinout now . rock on.... simmerrocks

tough question... i used to like elvis because of his look, but the more i know about him and listen more to his music..look does not matter anymore.. elvis was not look that good as he gain weight but i still enjoy his music and stories..
if he just an average joe , i would hope he still have that voice / music the thing which is never die about him.

i think the looks were just an added bonus its the voice, chrisma and that fantastic showmanship that gets me,i must admit i would like to have his looks though,i can only imagine the fun i would have.

I don't think someone like Jerry Lee Lewis is having that special magic that attracts people from all ages, races and genders. Same goes for Roy Orbisons, etc.

Making good music is a must to be a big artist. But the charisma and looks of Elvis was that extra bit of magic that also divides him from other talented and great artists.

My wife who really isn't a fan says without a doubt "he's the best looking man she's ever seen, his face was flawless". I would like to think given his voice, his ability to sing anything and a stage act that was second to none, along with his charisma he would still be thought of today, his genius and brilliance were too strong not to.

I felt in love with his voice. Dad had a few tapes with no picture on them. I listened to those tapes until they startet to deteriorate. :worthy:
I found about the looks later. It sure didn't hurt!

Regarding his looks, ............... I always cast a skeptical eye on collectors of EP's personal clothing items (especially off-stage wear) ................... that are of the male persuasion ........................

I can understand some of the female fans wanting such items, .................. but it has always perplexed me what EXACTLY the appeal is to the male fans.

Elvis was so unique, so cool that even men (fan or no fan) couldn't believe how great he looked and even say so till this day. Elvis is the only guy really that is talked about this way from other men. Heck my 15 year old daughter and her friends will look at pictures of him on some sites, especially from 56-57 and comment on how "hot he was". I'm a happily married heterosexual male and till this day I always found his looks fascinating, he just had that appeal, always did, always will. If you think about it how about the famous men who claimed EP was "the best looking man they ever saw", Wayne Newton, Jerry Reed, Tom Jones, Bruce Springstein and John Stamos just to name a few. Thus the appeal of Elvis, it's timeless.

I have to agree with Albert. The voice is it, but you can not take out the looks and charisma, it was part of him. As much as we like to think it is only the voice and the music. It's the whole package that makes the icon.

LOL -JUST KIDDING!!, I like this question It has really made me think..Elvis had the whole package the voice the looks the personality , I believe there will never be another man who could be more handsome, But I can honestly say that It's the voice that does it for me his voice is so haunting so crisp and clear ,so addictive.

I myself had not a clue what Elvis looked like even after hearing my mums single "Don't be cruel" at the age of 8 yrs but I fell in love with the voice.It was a pleasant surprise to see what he looked like when I did and I suppose in a way at that age it did help.I stayed a loyal fan all through my teens when most at my age were drooling over David Cassidy and the Bay City Rollers. Then came the middle 70's when he got a little weighty but that did not stop me from seeing still what Elvis was all about,for me he never lost that look that could melt my heart and that smile:worthy: and those eyes:worthy: but most of all that voice Elvis had it all

If Elvis couldn't sing a note, his looks wouldn't have mattered, he wouldn't have made it. BUT, if he was just out to be an actor, he would have made it big time. Look at Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Gregory Peck....the list goes on, and I bet those guys can't sing, so Elvis would have been in the entertainment industry one way or another.

WOW!I had never thought about that before....Humm!!Elvis was one in a million,needles to say.He was a very beautiful guy!And I am a girl but I have never seing Elvis like someone I wanted to sleep with.He was different.He was special.(The girls here probably think Im either a lesbian or crazy)but that's the honest to god thruth.We loved him,(still do 4ever)like a member of the family.I don't know about Ricky,or Roy.I guess Elvis himself asked the very same question to :"why me"?Why am I different?I am glad he was different.He was very good looking and he knew it.Some say that he din't look good during the late 70's when he was over weight,but he still had those beautiful blue eyes,those lips,.....I loved him anyhow!I never thought about what if Elvis looked different......I loved him during the 50's,60's 70's he always looked great to me.and he did look different during those years,but always:BEAUTIFUL"!!!

I can understand perfectly what you are saying about not wanting to sleep with Elvis. I can relate to that, and so can many women out there. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but just idolising someone doesn't make you want to sleep with them. I just would have liked to have had Elvis as a good friend, like Patty Parry did.
