in the live version at least one verse is left out, i was so surprised when i found the single and heard them for the first time.
I love the live version of this song from Vegas august 1970 i also like the studio version but i think it Elvis makes it sound even better live. Elvis gets totally involved in the song I think he found a personal message in this song.
What do you all think?

I never looked for trouble but I never ran.

I never looked for trouble but I never ran.

I agree, I think the song had a special meaning to Elvis, because when he had sang the song live he put some energy into it and made it better
For years the only way I heard it was from the That's the Way It Is album
Then the 70's box set came out with the actual single and I was shocked that It was done differently
It was cool u had a mellow version and a soulful version lol
This is one of my favorite Elvis songs! I like it live or in the studio!
That's correct. The live versions that have been released always omit one verse. Why? You're guess is as good as mine.
For the record, I think this song was better in concert than on record. IMO, most every studio record that Elvis did in concert was done better live, IMO.
If I had to take a guess at why he left out the last verse of this song I would say that it was because the song did have lots of words to remember and maybe he felt safer remembering just the chorus and verses he actually did sing on stage. It is a beautiful song and sounds much better performed lived, but it does have lots of words to remember.

This is the studio version with the wordiness of the lyrics:

Nothing against the Live version, but I prefer the studio version.
I like them both- but lean to the live version.
Work in Progress!
i just figger it was a timing thing, it was shortened because of the song length. Most of his live songs were under 3 minutes i think
I never looked for trouble but I never ran.
my favorite version is studio version and live , the live version is more powerful version, liked Patch It Up Same thing The Live version is more powerful

Take a look at you and me,,Are we too blind to see, Do we Simply turn our heads and look the other way.....(Line From "in The Ghetto")
I honestly dig the original studio version along with the other different takes. It , to me just sounds alot better than the live version but I'm sure if you did hear it (live while being at a show he sang it in) it would sound better than the recorded live version.

.the image is one thing and the human being is another...it's very hard to live up to an image......................
I like both versions of the song and was shocked when I finally heard the studio version and another verse.I still perfer the live version in 1970....hands down.
