    graceland tour question

i've often wondered how the floorcoverings in graceland are protected from the daily tours going through, has the carpet been removed? i know its probably a silly question but it is something i've always wondered. i would also like to know if you can stay in the trophy room long enough to take it all in or is there a time limit. of course my dream is to one day go to graceland to find out these things for myself but UNTIL THEN I'LL JUST PRETEND.

not sure about the carpet question.

but if i remember correctly you can stay how long you want to in the trophy room. I went in March where it is much more quieter than the summer months.

That is the long hall where all his Gold & Platnium records are on either side? Have i got that right? Sorry i am still half asleep.

To be honest the trophy room was too much, there are framed records in there from the floor to the ceiling. Sends ya mind in a spin.

I am sure that someday you will get ya dream and go and chill with Elvis in Memphis.

I had to wait 12 years

I was there twice, once in 1984 or 85, and again last year in july 5,
the two time i was there was great, be the 2nd time it was a big rush, but the frist time you can stay there has long has you like, and they did had tour
people they to tell the story in each room, not those dam tape machine they have now.

but i didnt played the tape machine anyway, i just wanted to look around.

I toured 'Graceland' in 1996, 97' and 98' and as far as I recall there was carpet on the floor. The hallway with the lounge and dinning room leading from it can get a little congested so you feel obliged not to linger for too long although staff were brilliant and didn't move anyone on.

The trohpy room and other larger area's were never a problem and I had the feeling that I could have stayed for as long as I liked.

In total I have toured the mansion six times. Once in Memphis I found it very difficult to visit anywhere else. I was more than happy just leaning on the wall looking at 'Graceland' with it's visitors coming and going. A truly 'goose bump' experience.

If all goes well I intend to visit again in 2005. I too waited many many years before my dream came true. I hope yours are a reality soon. Good luck.

I like the audio tapes and self-paced tour as a result, much better than the talking head guides (who were merely regurgitating from rote memory) with their pasted Disneyland-like smiles & facies.

I lingered for long times, taking photos, leaning over into displays for better shots (especially of the jewelry) and getting scolded for it, ............. and even returned to a couple of areas for a second looksy after visting other spots.

No complaints here about the updated tour; I think it is very well done & handled.

Carpet is showing a lot of wear in that little hall where you leave the billiard-room / basement TV room area. The outside of the mansion itself is showing disrepair & age ............. I also remember the main facade at the entrance being dirty if you looked carefully enough.

Any hardcore fan's understanding of EP will be incomplete unless they themselves have made the journey to both Memphis & Tupelo.
