Thread: Sideburn question

    Sideburn question

I'm wondering how Elvis decided to grow back his sideburns by 1968. And why he changed it so many times during the '70s.. Did he shave by himself? And who decided how to wear his hair and burns during the Vegas - Comeback season in '69. Cuz I consider it one of his best hairstyles.

good question. But i figger Elvis decided how to wear his hair and i imagine he shaved himself. Maybe like most of us he changed his hairstyle every year or so cause he got bored with the look.
I never looked for trouble but I never ran.

    It sounds familiar.
    I have the same thing.
When i get bored with my look, i change it.
    But my sideburns stay on.
    They will never get off.

I think it is just the way hounddog says.
Even Elvis could get bored with the look.
Some of you all never been down South too much...
I'm gonna tell you a little story, so you'll understand where I'm talking about

I'm pretty sure Elvis decided how to wear his hair and how to wear the sideburns. But I think I recall that Charlie shaved him once in a while, perhaps Geller also shaved and trimmed the sideburns.

I often wonder if he grew them back because that was the style in the late 60's early 70's or if the simple fact that he wore them made them the new style. I wonder that about the bell bottoms, too. I am going with Elvis making it the fashion of the day rather than Elvis bending to someone else's fashion trends.

Since he had them in the 50s when they were not at all in style,
I always thought growing back the sideburns in the late 60s was just a part of his getting back to his roots.

Well, thanks Ken for blowing my theory out to the water. I guess that, coupled with my failing grade on the vBExperience means I'm really batting 1,000 today.

I think after the slick hair style in the movies and then the military haircut Elvis could hardly wait to grow out his hair and sideburns and get back to what he felt was normal for him. I can't say I blamed him.

I loved the way his hair and sideburns were from 1968-1972.Especially 1969.I heard Jerry Schilling say that he growed them back in rebellion to the movies and also the long sleeve shirts too.

for the movies Elvis had to have the cleancut image (very contrary to the way most of the artists had it in those days). But for the 68 special he wanted to go for a more contemporary look. He obviously liked it, keeping that look for the remainder of the movies and had his hair (and sideburns) grow more when returning to live performing

I still say I would love for him to have the 1969-1970 look if he were still alive today.Just to have him stay frozen at that age and look would have been so amazing.

    Re: Sideburn question

I think he looked great with sideburns!! I love his style in 1968, but in 69 and 70 as well!! Maybe Larry Geller, his hair-dresser shaved it to him. But I can imagine that sometimes he did it to himself.
