Did Elvis become mistrusting?

I think that there was always a little mistrust beginning once he realized that his fame would not be temporary and increased after he returned from the army (possibly due to the death of Gladys). He knew that the people that he surrounded himself with where paid to be there and he felt that he would not have been around him had he not been famous and wealthy. I don't think he ever changed this way of thinking.

Insofar as the drugs playing a part in this mistrust, I imagine that it probably made the mistrust a greater source contention, but the main feeling had always been there. The issue of being a recluse was just a matter of lifestyle for him from the time he skyrocketed into our mainstream culture. The fact that he lived and played by night and slept by day was probably one of the main reasons that he was so reclusive.

I don't know how anyone who could not get the time of day from most people until he hit the bigtime could not have a certain mistrust of people.
You are the same person-yet now everyone wants to be your friend, everyone wants to "help" in some way, your name (the same one you had when you were unknown) now opens every door wide with a smile. I would think anyone in the same situation does tend to second guess the reasoning for everyone around thems new attitude.
