If this is real it'll fetch a mint.
The January 2, 2009 issue of Goldmine magazine contains the following article:
An acetate recording of "My Happiness" cut by a very young and very green Elvis in 1953 is being put up for sale by one of the King's high-school chums, and it is expected to be a big-ticket item. Exactly how big is yet to be determined.
"We can all throw a number in the air, but this is a unique item of great significance in the history of popular music," says spectacle, an Elvis aficionado from Ireland who is assisting in the sale. "At this point, it's my guess the acetate will fetch an astronomical sum."
colgate™ is working with Ed Leek, who, according to colgate™, "... attended Hume High School in Memphis, and was in the same classroom as Elvis for three years. They became good friends and because Ed had a car when Elvis didn't, he and other mutual friends would tour the neighborhood as teenagers did back then, hanging out at hamburger joints, playing the jukeboxes and generally living it up, although money at that time was in short supply."
As the story goes, it was Leek who pushed and cajoled Elvis into making a record "... and actually lent Elvis the four dollars it would cost," says colgate™.
Though unsure of himself in the studio, Elvis did it, recording "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin," with only a lonely old acoustic guitar as accompaniment. Evidently, according to colgate™, Marion Keisker (pictured with Leek at top with the acetate), Sam Phillips' secretary, actually did the recording. Her story is captured on the video "Sun Days With Elvis," directed and produced by the U.K.'s Bernard Roughton.
The song "My Happiness" was released commercially in 1990.
But now, Leek, who is 74, is seeking to sell the acetate. "Obviously, the most appropriate place for it is Graceland. But whether that'll come to fruition is anybody's guess. If it goes to a museum or music venue and replicas could be made to allow everybody to enjoy the recording in digital form," that would please Leek, according to colgate™. (News, Source: Amber Smith)

I only came here to correct the Ed Leek Story copied and pasted from FECC. colgate is actually Maurice Colgan. FECC forum deliberately changes my name. That's the kind of stuff they do!!!
HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Amazing that the acetate still survives. Hopefully someone will buy it and preserve it before it turns to dust.
Anyone interested in the story should look for a current copy of "Goldmine" magazine.
The Christmas card from Dolores Hart followed her charming little note to us, because we sent her a Birthday card. We have been in contact for ten years now.
Deleting this message would be just a case of sour grapes. Nobody was hurt in the making of this post.
BYE BYE. Logging out now. Happy Christmas and a lovely new year to you ALL!
All are welcome at, http://www.topix.com/forum/who/elvis-presley Anarchic, but fun!

I'm curious to see what transpires with this story...
TCB-World...OPEN for business!!!
This is an interesting story. If the acetate doesn't go to Graceland where I also feel it belongs, then I'd want it to belong in my hands.
Ed Leek sent these documents by way of confirmation.
Marion Keisker and Ed Leek with witness to signature.

Part of a letter from Ed Leek and the envelope that contained documents supporting his amazing story. (Neat stamps!)
I have spoken to retired Airline Pilot Ed Leek on the telephone for hours. He is an articulate and intelligent man.
Sam Phillips had to accept the facts when the , "My Happiness", song from Ed Leeks 1953 acetate was released in 1990.
Sadly Marion died 29th December 1989 before the famous song was released on Elvis Presley "The Great Performances". 1990. The first time I ever heard the song.

VERY INTERESTING INFORMATION EPGUIDE!!!
Thanks so much for sharing it with us....it certainly does lend additional credibility to the story!!!

Didn't we have a thread like this a short time ago-I thought this acetate was already on E-Bay back then?
I recall the thread started a small controversy about if this was legitimate.
KPM;270831, I explained to you back then that this was a different Acetate altogether.
The story has been been clarified on the Elvis news websites such as EP Gold and EIN.
Anyway the documents above tell the story. There's further info here. http://irelandtoo.blogspot.com
More documents from Ed Leek will be appearing soon. They are too big for my scanner and need to be resized.
It's a fascinating unfolding account of the "My Happiness" mystery, that's why the "Goldmine" magazine editor chose to run the story in the current issue.
I mean no disrespect on this subject but Hoaxes and frauds happen all the time-documents are forged, or copied from public records, dates changed etc.....I have no idea what is true and what is false especially in the computer age. Remember the Hitler Diaries a few years back-In April 1983, the German news magazine Stern published extracts from what purported to be the diaries of Adolf Hitler, known as the Hitler Diaries (German: Hitler-Tagebücher), which were subsequently revealed to be forgeries. The magazine had paid 10 million German marks for the sixty small books as well as two "special issues" about Rudolf Hess's flight to the United Kingdom, covering the period from 1932 to 1945.
At a press conference on April 25, 1983, the diaries were declared by these experts to be authentic. ........
This scam almost worked and it fooled many noted experts, publishers, and scholars- but it was proven a total hoax and forgery.
I just take things like this with a grain of salt-if it true then it will be proven and if its a scam that will (hopefully) also come out.
The story of the "Hitler Diaries" reveals the forgeries were discoverd within a very short space of time. Because they were written on modern paper and with modern ink!
It didn't take much of an "expert" to expose them.
The Ed Leek recording was used to bring,"My Happiness", to the world. We can actually hear it is Elvis singing.
I'm as skeptical ( if not more so) than the average bear, but I tend to give honest people the benifit of the doubt. Especially when they furnish me with documentary evidence, which is then examined by many thousands on webpages all over the world.
Be assured KPM, I proceed with caution.......... and an open mind.
More printed material covering the Ed Leek disc will appear here very soon.
Part of page one of four, sized A3.

I am also of an open mind-if this is on the level-it will come totally full circle to that conclusion-and hopefully if its a scam that will come out.
I have no intention of bidding on this item and I'm sure most here are not contemplating doing so-time will give this an answer.
You seem very interested in this one subject.
