    The thing about Lists

is that almost no one will ever agree that's the only thing we will probably agree on. I've read 2 'lists' in the past weeks. The Top 100 Singers in Rolling Stone Magazine. Elvis was voted #3. Yes, that made me mad, but I really flipped when I saw that Bob Dylan beat out Roy Orbison. What? The list was best singers, not best songwriters. I don't own a single anything where Bob sings - and I won't invest in anything either. That voice - no way for me!
THe second list was on Yahoo! The Top 25 Teen Idols. Nowhere to be found was our Man, ELVIS! But before anyone gets outraged - also not on the list were the Beatles. #1 was Davy Jones. Of the 8000 plus responses - and I only read about 100, people were outraged. Lots of Elvis fans came to his defense. To make matters worse, more than one person stated that teen idols were supposed to be teenagers and that's why neither Elvis nor the Beatles were on the list.
Again, WHAT the ...? Elvis was 19 when That's Alright Mama hit the airwaves. NineTEEN. and I might I add that Davy JOnes was 20 or 21, David Cassidy was also in his twenties when they "became teen Idols". Yeah, Cassidy also made the list. Another D.A. stated that Elvis didn't have a teenage fan base and that's why he didn't make the list. Okay, got that off my chest. And now,

    My top 10 Teen Idols:

    1. Elvis Presley
    2. ELVIS Presley
    3. ELVIS PRESLEY
    4. Bobby Sherman
    5. Osmond Brothers (my favorite was Jay)
    6. David Cassidy
    7. Rick Springfield
    8. Shaun Cassidy
    9. John Travolta
    10. The Marlboro Man - who later became famous as
    Tom Selleck

I'll add my Top Ten Adult Idols at a later time - when I grow up.

Just pretend, I'm holding you, and whispering things soft and low.
And think of me, how it's gonna be and just pretend I didn't go

I would take it as a compliment that Elvis isn't on a list like that

a lot of people think of teen idols as people that were popular for a couple of years with teenagers but then faded away, people like David Cassidy and Leif Garret.

Elvis was a teen idol like Cassidy and Garret but was more successful for a longer period of time like the Beatles who also aren't on the list.

so I would take it as a compliment that Elvis is thought of as much more than just a teen idol.

As for Rolling stone magazine there stuck in the 60's that's why Bob Dylan is ahead of Roy Orbison

Yes, and I had at least one full-page magazine ad taped to my bedroom wall.

Brian, thanks for a perspective I can relate to! Bob was the guy in the 60's but he still can't sing!
