    Vernon

When he brought the Stanley's into Elvis's life, do you think that was a mistake? Should Vernon have been more careful. What do you think Elvis thought of the boys. I mean, like did he see them as brothers?

I do think Elvis accepted them as brothers, and even if he really didn't deep down Elvis was not the type of person to come out and say no I don't like you all, you aren't my real family. I think he really tried to welcome them into the family out of love for his father, because I think he wanted him to be happy. But nonetheless, I do believe that Elvis was very angry deep down at his father for remarrying so soon, I think Elvis thought that was betrayal to his mother.

Missy, you are becoming my favorite thread initiator

This is a topic which is especially worth revisiting in the light of David Stanley's extraordinary current movie project:

Whatever way you look at it, Vernon probably should have been a lot more careful, yes.
Having said that, if David's new film is to believed at all, the serious wrongdoing was in the kind of care that Vernon took while usurping upon the Stanley family.

It sounds like Elvis did his best to accommodate the boys for his father's sake.
Since he was inclined to 'do the right thing by family' and show support, we'll probably never know exactly how he felt about it.

I think dee was a mistake and vernon should of been more wise when dee was trying to put his hooks into elvis and as for the boys well elvis treated them like brothers, but its shame they couldn't show enough respect towards elvis.

I agree they could've shown Elvis more respect, and tbh the only one her dee's kids I ever liked was rickey.

I think Elvis felt sorry for the boys for having the mother they had. Yes, he did treat them like brothers - too bad they didn't keep the same respect for him after he died!!!

It really blows my mind how much elvis did for these people and than have them turn around and drag elvis though the mud and say the most horrible things..if only elvis and vernon knew what low lives they were they could of got rid of them from the begining.

That is what Vernon tried to do at the end, if it was the money excuse than so be it...I don't like Ginger much because, I don't think she was loved E, but she said it best when she said that E wasn't mad about the book it was the principle of the book, because he had done so much for these people's families.

Yeah I've seen it once. Don't care to watch it again.

Same here. I'll take Red West's words over any of the Stanley's any day. I think they may have been expecting big money after Elvis died but didn't get it and then Vernon divorced their mother and all of them turned on Elvis.

I was always curious as to why Vernon picked up with her and so soon after Gladys passing, but I guess it was company for him. She always came across as more interested in Elvis than his dad and I get the impression Elvis knew that. imo Elvis accepted the stanley brothers for the sake of Vernon's happiness.

Off the subject a little but it's been said that Dee's first husband was a drunk and a bully, does anyone know if he ever gave his side of the story?

Plain and simple, Vernon was after a piece of ***!! (I inserted the * myself, didn't actually spell the word)....he saw Elvis with gorgeous women on his arm all the time and I think Vernon was jealous and wanted what Elvis had....

I do think Elvis felt bad for them and tried to make up for the way their mom/dad's marriage turned out and tried to be there for them.

They stabbed him in the back - so did that nasty person Dee. Whatever happened to her anyways?

I really don't think Vernon was Jealous of what Elvis had..Proud, yes, very, but not jealous, I mean come on thats his son.

And calling him a piece of (insert what you want here) is a little out of line if you ask me.

We don't know why vernon chose Dee, who in the world are to see here on a MB 40-50 years later and say that he didn;t like her..maybe he was really lonely since he did loose his wife and all!!

One little thing to remember: Dee originally wanted Elvis but when she couldn't land Elvis, he (Elvis) sent his father to meet her.

Brad: No one is calling Vernon a "piece of ***" (my asteriks). You mis-read. Kelly was saying that "Vernon wanted a 'piece of ***'" and she was referring to Dee as being said object.
