    Hi,

That's a good question. There are tons of import videocd's, dvd's and CDR's. Many have great covers while the content is horrible. It would be a good thing when somewhere information about this could be found.

We have import CDs and FTD Cd on this site - it would be great to maybe do a forum with the DVD/VCDs and have reviews and screen captures. I know I am a neebie and all, but really think the ELVIS community would really benefit from this.

Let me know what people think

CERTAINLY NOT A BAD IDEA MARK!!!

I agree that something like this would be an AWESOME resource for Elvis fans to have....but it's also an idea which would be an AWESOME undertaking for someone to compile, given the massive amount of DVD releases out there today!!!

I certainly would use a resource like this myself, if one were available! (h)

    GREAT IDEA MARK!!!

Yes, I think everyone would benefit from such a resource. A lot of fans have been exposed to some extent to the wonderful world of import videos, but because of the vast amount of material that exists in so many different forms, and the built-in degree of doubt over buying that type of product, they just don't know where to begin. So a Consumer Reports-like guide would be a very useful tool.

I was thinking, considering that the same thing can often come in different packages--and different things can come in the same packages, that it could be something all of us could contribute to (specifying specific versions and sellers, etc.). BUT...wouldn't we run into problems with that, both because of legal issues, and also the potential of people tainting the operation by allowing conflicts of interest to come into play?

Therefore, Mike, since you and Mark (spinout) have loads of free time and the kinds of videos we are talking about, it only makes sense to have you two take this bull by the horns.

    Import VCDs

    Hi everyone,
i understand your problem as i had exactly the same 2 years ago when i didn't have any VCD (now i have around 200).
First of all, you have to bear in mind that most of the VCDs you find for sale on the net come from 8mm, therefore the quality is not and will NEVER be compared with TTWII or ON TOUR.
Second point : NONE of those VCDs is worth the price those people are asking for : 30, 40 or even 50 USD.
The quality is from FAIR to TERRIBLE, on some of them you can only see a far away light that looks like a ghost, it's impossible to tell what jumpsuit he's wearing and you can only imagine it's ELVIS, let's not even talk about the sound.
Having said that, there are a few that are interesting, for example :
    -VIRGINIA LOVES ELVIS
this is almost the complete concert filmed by MGM for ON TOUR at HAMPTON ROADS (blue suit), professional quality.
    -ELVIS IN CONCERT (RAPID CITY)
    -ELVIS IN CONCERT (OMAHA)
Although this is not the ELVIS we want to be remembered, the quality is professional.
    -ROCKING ON NEW YEARS'S EVE
The Pittsburg concert is a must have for every fan and the quality of this one is good.
    -OPENING NIGHTS
This one contains part of the Vegas august 19, 1974 opening show (including YOU CAN HAVE HER) as well as part of the august 18, 1975 opening show.
    -RETURN TO SPLENDOUR
    -CELEBRATING A KING
    -CALIFORNIA GOLD
    -VITAL VEGAS
And of course : BEHIND THE IMAGE 1 and 2, although they are without the original sound.
ADRENALINE, filmed in Vegas in august 70 from the balcony and again without the original sound.
And a few more, like the KING MASTERS series.
So, don't be fooled by the descriptions those people use :FANTASTIC, STUNNING, A MUST HAVE, you might be deceived.
    Greetings

    LOADS OF FREE TIME????
YOU ARE A VERY FUNNY GUY PAL!!!

Seriously though, since I only recently entered the realm of DVD's within the last year, I am HARDLY an expert on the many import DVD titles out there and the quality of those titles! Now, if we were talking regular import videos, then perhaps I could lend a hand in the creation/assembly of such a resource. But, since most fans are now switching to DVD, I am unfortunately not in a position, knowledge-wise, to be able to really lend much assistance in this type of a database! (Couple this with the fact that I seem to have the only DVD player on the face of the planet that DOES NOT play VCD's, and I am at a SEVERE DISADVANTAGE!!!)

HOWEVER...that being said, I would be EXTREMELY happy to add whatever assistance I could to the creation of such a resource for fellow Elvis fans/collectors. While, as I said, I don't have many import DVD titles in my collection right now, I would be happy to lend information on the few titles that I do have to this project, if it does become a reality!

As for actually being a co-creator of such a database, I would POTENTIALLY be interested in doing it, depending on the amount of time that would be needed for the project. I REALLY enjoy doing these type of projects, but because I have such limited time on the computer with work, family, etc., I generally don't offer my services on such projects simply because of the time factor. But, depending on how much time is needed for a project like this, I would seriously consider working on it with whomever else would be interested in undertaking such a massive project! (h)

THANKS for the vote of confidence pal!!! As always, I appreciate it!!

    TCB!
    Mike
