Here's one for the Irish members of our TCB family. Anyone know him?

Out of idle curiosity I followed the trail to irishshowbands.com......according to Brendan Bowyer after Elvis had been to see his show with the Royal Showband he congratulated him on his version of "You gave me a mountain"...and this was before Elvis got around to it supposedly..... Could this be when Elvis decided to start doing the song?
He also charted with a tribute song "Thank you Elvis" in 1977....and,in fairness to him,he always has something nice to say about The King. Also I found a video of him doing an Elvis medley on youtube...but I won`t put it up here...pretty awful!!

Not sure on the reason Elvis started doing "You Gave Me a Mountain"
It was written in 1969 for Frankie Laine by Marty Robbins-Laine had a top 25 hit with it in 69. Robbins also had a pretty good version of it on one of his albums.
I had always assumed Elvis heard the hit 69 version by Frankie Laine and liked the song.

Yeah...I`m sure Elvis would have been aware of the original....it just seemed like a possibility to me that Elvis hearing it done onstage in Vegas might have made him think how suited it would be to his show at the time...hmmmm...another thing we may never know the answer to!!!
