I tell you what : belive what you want, but i know a few things when it come to pictures.
But this is to stupid to go on with, but if i wher you, i would have change the text on the main tilte on this topic
Since posting the question last Friday..I have done some extensive research into the photos...the website that I first linked " kingscandid.com " said that they were from 1972.....which seemed too early to me..then...
Capt. Elwood enlightened us to 1973 era...then...more of you stated September 1973 was when they were taken...however..
the year seemed correct..but the month seemed wrong..

kennyelvis..what is the actual date of the photos I posted..?Are they February,1973??

  3. #23
I defer to Kenny on the months of the photos. Jewelry is a reliable indicator as to the year, but that is as far as one can take it.

It stands to reason that if Kenny is quoting the primary source of the pics., ........... then it is correct.

Generally speaking: EP could be wearing the necklace at either or both of the times. 1973 is a pretty rare year as far as EP pics go (both on-stage & off-stage candids). I know, because I have dealt with this time period myself with items / follow-up.

    ------------------------

I laughed the first time I saw these TURBAN photos .................... and still do.

    Crazy 'Ol EP ....................

PS - Wonder where that TURBAN is now ............................ (?) ............. LOL!!

    February vs September 1973

I agree that it's being a little trivial...but it's still hard for me to believe that the "TURBAN" photos were taken at the end of the summer(September)1973..when the guy on the right has on a t-shirt,a dress shirt,a sweater, and a jacket(look at the photo)...he's crazier than Elvis..
it just seems that February,1973 is more logical...

    Generally speaking:

The only way to prove the primary source of the photos incorrect would be to get word from the others in the photos with E.

It wouldn't be a first ............ for time, fading memory, or mistaken assumptions to be found at the root of inconsistencies or contradicting blatant facts.

I think we all do agree, it really isn't a big deal, either way.

Cool photos, guys ................ and thanks to Wade for this interesting thread.

Wade, Sorry that i got a bit mad but to me it looked like you did not read my answer.
I did a short check up on this thing.
In the "What happend" book that Dave Hebler did with the West boys, it says that Hebler first meet Elvis in the fall of 1972.
In the interview for the "Essential" magazin it is a picture of Hebler and Elvis with the turban, on the text with that picture it says : A rare shot of Dave`s fist meeting with Elvis in september 1973.
I also found pictures from February 1973 wher Elvis used the same necklace that he have on the turban picture.
The ring he have on the right hand on the turban pix : i found many pix where he used that ring on tour in june, july, august 1973.
So i really dont know Wade, it could be february 1973.
In the "What happend" book, it says nothing about the turban on the first meeting that took place in september 1972.
But one thing i know : All the people that make books about our man, dont know shit about what year they did things, and that book was made in 76-77 so thouse guy`s could still be a bit stone in there brains when they was making that book.
Wade, and all the other that have taken part on this topic : I dont make this post to save my sweet behind, i just want to tell you what i found out, cose i want the truth, but i did not get any smarter, so to me, the picture are still from September 1973.
Have a nice day folks, i know i will

Speaking of jewelry, I was recently visiting with some friends who are Loretta Lynn's daughters, Loretta mentioned Elvis gave her a ring in 1976 in Vegas when she visited him backstage after his show. She had written a song she wanted him to record and he took a ring off his hand and gave it to her as thanks for the song and thinking of him.

She has promised to allow me to photograph it later this month and I will post as soon as I can. I asked her if she would ever sell it to me, she said she would just give it to me since I have known her and her daughters for 20 plus years, I laughed and said would you mind signing a COA for it, she said not at all, now do you think that would be enough?

A ring from Elvis to Loretta Lynn and her COA of the event around it....shame there is no photo from that event too!

Sounds like a great find SP.

Rest assured, if came from EP's finger, ............ and he was wearing after a show, ........... there are most likely photos of EP with the ring -------> just a matter for the determined to locate.

Gotta admit, ................ now that is indeed friendship.

I heard a different story about the tulband. One of the kids of his "gang" (don't know who anymore) was ill and Elvis tried to chear the kid up by wearing the tulband and pretending he was a healer that came to heal the kid. The story goes that the kid surprisingly got well very quick! I don't know if this story is true put you can see the kid that was ment in the pic. Also I heard many stories that Elvis was able to heal for real. (See the DVD : Elvis, he touched me.) Ofcourse these are only stories and I don't know how much of it is true.

    TCE -

That story, sounds like spun MYTH to me .................

Like all MYTH, there are some elements of TRUTH within:

    1. EP did indeed believe that he had certain "special" powers. Technically, it's called a delusion.

    2. EP's healing efforts - coincidently worked sometimes - simply because people usually get better anyway (sometimes immediately, sometimes longer).

    3. The kids, I believe, are Hebler's. The reasons you cite could be valid; it would certainly explain EP's bizarre appearance / behavior a bit.

    4. There is a green jeweled ring that EP believed had healing powers that he used from time to time to practice his healing arts. Ring is in private hands. In keeping with some of EP's undisciplined areas of intelligence, Gellers influence & encouragement, ........ EP took to many rather bizarre belief patterns -----------> among them what we call an aspect of the power of gemstones over people.

Anyway you slice it, ............... kind of sad on a number of levels. These kinds of things were very private to EP and something that only those close to him were aware of during his lifetime (Numerology, etc.). All were a product of his loneliness, boredom, and search for answers. In the end, he always came back to is Christian beliefs.

For good & bad, this side of Elvis is a significant part of The Legend & Myth and will always be.

Like I told you it was just what I read. I never take much believe in the so called stories, because no one can tell what really happened. I think some "bizare" things Elvis did (like shooting the t.v.) had a cause. I mean action - reaction. And there was ofcourse the influence of Elvis medication that changed his moods. What always atracted me and wondered me (besides his good voice, his carisma and his humor) is that he was a myth when he was alive and still is after so many years, even though he was a normal human being like us. To me ( and I think many others) he must have been something special. Afterall, there are many other good singers, still they never reached the level Elvis has. I'm very glad with this forum and I agree totaly with you. This is a great site that keeps the legend alive. Thanks God for it.

    Be safe and take care,

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with Hebler on this one.

The "Aloha" Horeshoe ring was EP's Birthday gift to himself in Jan. of 1973. EP is sporting that ring in the pics. It has to 1973.

Generally speaking, I've seen this kind of thing before ----> memories are fallible, and the evidence speaks for itself.
