Elvis to be featured on new urban movie soundtrack

I found this from another forum. Elvis' song My Babe, I would imagine is a live version from 69, is featured on the upcoming two disc soundtrack of Cadillac Records starring pop star Beyonce. I guess she really is a fan.

Here's the track listing for "Cadillac Records":

    Disc one:
    "I'm a Man," Jeffrey Wright
    "At Last," Beyonce
"No Particular Place To Go," Mos Def
"I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man," Jeffrey Wright
    "Once in a Lifetime," Beyonce
"Let's Talk a Walk," Raphael Saadiq
    "6 O'Clock Blues," Solange
    "Nadine," Mos Def
    "The Sound," Mary Mary
    "Last Night," Little Walter
    "I'd Rather Go Blind," Beyonce
    "My Babe," Columbus Short
"Bridging the Gap," Nas featuring Olu Dara

    Disc two:
    "Maybellene," Mos Def
"Forty Days and Forty Nights," Buddy Guy
    "Trust in Me," Beyonce
    "Juke," Kim Wilson
    "Smokestack Lightnin'," Eamonn Walker
    "Promised Land," Mos Def
"All I Could Do Was Cry," Beyonce
    "My Babe," Elvis Presley
"I Can't Be Satisfied," Jeffrey Wright
    "Come On," Mos Def
    "Country Blues," Jeffrey Wright

After thinking about it I wonder which live version of My Babe they're using? I figured this would get a lot of positivity here considering it's not the usual Hound Dog being used and a very rare live recording used instead.

If you'll notice Elvis is the only caucasian featured on this set. Goes to show that Elvis does still have a non white audience after all despite what a few black bigots say and think about him.

The story of Chess records is an interesting subject, the story of Leonard Chess and the record company he founded. Beyonce is one of the stars but it is a bio of Chess so I think Brody would be the lead.
The film stars American actors Adrien Brody as Chess, Cedric the Entertainer as Willie Dixon, Mos Def as Chuck Berry, Columbus Short as Little Walter, Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters, and Beyoncé Knowles as Etta James.
American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and music producer Steve Jordan will produce the soundtrack to the film.
"My Babe" was a staple in the initial August 69 engagment at the International by Elvis. He never recorded it in studio but it was recorded several times live in the 69 engagement.

The movie sounds interesting but to me what's more interesting is how does Elvis play into all this? Is he just heard on the soundtrack or is there more?

Is he portrayed in the movie performing live in 69 and Etta James is at the show?

Did the real Etta James ever meet Elvis or attend his shows?

Well I guess we'll know in a month or so when the film comes out.
To speculate I would think he is just part of the background music-I just do not recall any mention of Chess records and a connection to Elvis.
As far as Etta James a quick search on the 2 names came up with no real connection.
But as Elvis admired blues singers-it is not inconceivable that they saw each others shows somewhere along the way.
"My Babe" is a blues song written by Willie Dixon for Little Walter. Released in 1955 on Checker Records, a subsidiary of Chess Records, the song was the only Dixon composition ever to become a no. 1 R&B single, I would think maybe the fact that it was such a big song out of Chess-and Elvis is probably the biggest act to cover it may be the connection. But thats a guess.
