I just found this..not sure if it's true or not..
June 3,1959- Striken with tonsillitis, Elvis enters the base hospital and remains there for six days, during which a fruitless search is undertaken for a doctor who will operate on the famous throat. The inflammation is instead allowed to run its course.

Elvis didn't want to have his tonsilis removed because he thought that he'd lose his singing voice.Maybe afraid of something happening during surgery?

Thanks all for the info. Greatly helped thanx.
I came across this letter that Elvis had written to Anita Woods while he was in the Army and on the third page he talks about having tonsillitis again.
