    Graceland Closing?

Saw this topic on FECC and wanted to get ur thoughts on it.

With the much money it cost to get Graceland up and going and with not so many visitors do you see in the future anytime Graceland being closed to the public?

If so would they still keep the house andeverything the way it is and kept up so to speak?

    No well I'am not sure...
I mean by the time Riley,Ben,and twins get it,I'm not sure how Elvis will be percieved..I'm positive he'll still be known, but I'm not sure how much the demand on seeing Graceland will be....
but unless something happens,or everyone stops coming out,I don't think it will close...

You would expect Graceland to be as recession-proof as beer and the movies.
There's a greater desire to dream at times of financial hardship and the whole Elvis thing is pure escapism for lots of people, myself included.

With the British economy looking set to plummet below even the US, however, that should spell bad news for Memphis. Every time I've been there in recent years the place has been overrun with English rock'n'roll fans exploiting the exchange rate. The Memphis tourism industry is going to really feel the UK's withdrawal and Graceland is obviously at the heart of that. The party is definitely over for a while.

As the saying goes things never stay the same, things change new generation coming up they may want different things I think Graceland has to think of some new ideas to move with the times.

There's no way that Graceland is closing.
Maybe in 2199.When nobody will care about Elvis and his talent

we are talking about the money problems people are facing and they can't afford to make there way to graceland and with prices so high there it makes it difficult.

    .

Graceland will eventually close to public view.

Probably after we're all gone, or towards the end of most of our lives.

This Been Going Around past 25 years said closing It, What I think , They Are cutting back On the Tours , like White House because of 911. Someday It will Closed
    Graceland .
I have Too See it first To believe it, we have to forget that We don't own Graceland.. for the reason closing It It up To Lisa , I hear that Lisa didn't Live In Graceland, She say That special memories for her and more She Liked come To Graceland On Holidays And She Need to unwind. She say That It's 3 Times an year.
How long Graceland Stay opening , Long as We fans Come To It , It's Didn't matter How small group of fans go on Tour .
This Tread Or anothers keep us remember That It can be close in heart beat....
I got See Graceland It Was still It Was liked 1977, no Cars In buildings and Plane (Lisa-Marie) was New For Tours. It's been 20 years ago I was Here, It's was one my dreams.

well it might close at some time in the future as the prices are rising and the money people have left to spend on holidays and treats seems to be geting less and less and with the prices going up at graceland like everything else people may not be able to keep up with the prices but i hope i'm long gone before that happens god knows what merchandise they will bring out in the future or what state the elvis image will be in

I do not think it will ever close. I have always sited Buffalo Bill as an example of why I think Graceland will never close.
We all know who Buffalo Bill was in western history of the US.
He died and on June 3, 1917, Buffalo Bill was buried on Lookout Mountain, a promontory with spectacular views of both the mountains and plains, places where he had spent the happiest times of his life.

Louisa, who had married Buffalo Bill back before he became famous, was buried next to her husband four years later. That year, 1921, the Buffalo Bill Memorial Museum was begun by Johnny Baker, close friend and unofficial foster son to Buffalo Bill. Just as millions of people saw Buffalo Bill in his Wild West shows during his life, millions of persons have visited Buffalo Bill’s grave in the years since 1917. Today it is one of the top visitor attractions in Denver and Colorado. I myself visited this museum in 1964 on a vacation.
87 years later thousands go there to visit from around the world each year-and the museum has steadily grown in size and stature. Buffalo Bill is a very colorful character but he is not Elvis. I feel Graceland will continue to draw in people for a long long time.

I think it's far more likely to happen as a result of unforeseen financial circumstances than any sudden generational apathy towards Elvis Presley in the future.

You are right about that. It is the best form of escapism around if you are an Elvis fan. Obviously for me it is a return to a very very happy time of my life, a chance to go back in time when my only worry was an algebra test coming up!

When we were at the HH in April it was at least 50% European. We are going back next week, it will be interesting to see if there is any change.

It was the same in July when I visited. Almost half of the visitors at Graceland were from Europe. Having just returned from Las Vegas last week, the same can be said -- at least half of the tourists in Vegas were from Europe or eastern Asia. It is amazing that so many travel to our country to experience our culture.

It would be interesting to see 100 years into the future where Graceland is concerned. My biggest gripe w/ Graceland is their ADMISSION PRICE. Give me a break $68 per person for a VIP. No tour is worth that much. Hard to take a family of 4 w/ those prices! Just looked on elvis.com and their prices for 2009 are going up $1.00. It seems they've exploited everything Elvis w/ greed of money! Now w/ the economy wondering how much will get done w/ Silverman's plans for Graceland/Elvis.
