    FTD "Closing Night"

    Hi folks,
I recieved my copies of Closing Night and Double Trouble this morning

First impressions are good....but you will have to give me time to have a listen as i have only taken the wrappers off at the minute

Artwork on Closing Night is pretty cool on the back and inside....still not overly impressed by the front cover

The photo's inside and back are taken from the 'caught in a trap book'. They are B/W...but a good shots. Now i know why i was asked to remove a certain picture from Ultimate Live 1973

    More to follow
    TCB Chris.

    First listen to Closing Night.......

    Pretty **** cool to me.........

A little bit too much foolin' around to be a perfect show...but i already knew what the show was like....so i am not complaining...its pretty cool to here Elvis joking and playing around....

As it goes on the show gets better and better anyhow....

The sound is very good...nice and clear...sure there are a couple of parts where it distorts a tad...but overall...very good soundwise.

Some really nice versions of What now my love....My Boy...The first Time Ever I saw your face....Mystery Train.....were the highlights for me....but seen as thats as far as the cd played...there could be a couple more to come....
    TCB Chris.

Hasn't a book been released some years ago filled with pictures from this engagement? I believe something like 'Caught In a Trap'? If so, then stunning pictures could have been used for this cover.

But hey, what am I talking about? I don't even have this CD yet

Yes...you have to question the pictures selected....but thats not unusal for FTD now is it

Terrific end to the cd by the way.....How Great Thou Art....reprised about three times is wonderful.....Help me make it through the night...cool version....a very nice spoken Softly as i leave you......to sum up....apart from the artwork 'overall'...the cd itself is great...and as has been said so many times before...its the material that really counts

I finally have this one also and it's great

Although the sound is a bit dull thanks to the lacking of the bright high tones, it's still a nice soundboard to listen to: you can clearly hear all the rhythm instruments, the background vocals and also the audience.

September 1973? It could easily be september 1974

Elvis is very upbeat, but also very, VERY energetic. Lots of incoherent talking, messing up and joking. But hey, it's upbeat so I'm not complaining. Elvis is clearly enjoying and trying to give his audience a great 1 hour of enterntainment.

He is constantly changing lines and making comments to his bandmembers. If this would be the only released soundboard then it would be a shame. But since we're having so many great soundboards, I can really enjoy a show like this. At least with shows like this he's still doing his best as entertainer (contrary to many shows in '76-'77).

Elvis changed many lines during songs, some funny ones are:
Love Me Tender: "to hell with the Hilton, to hell with this hotel.."
"I will help you as much as I can, cause I know that you're blind"
T.R.O.U.B.L.E. (introductions) "now I will sing some spanish folk songs"

Anyway, it's a great CD, also because of the enormous varied setlist. Many rare songs were added..... fantastic.

Sounds like everyone, for the most part, is enjoying CLOSING NIGHT! I still haven't received my copy yet, but am anxiously waiting to hear it! Although I have heard the concert before, I am curious to see how much better the FTD release sounds!

I am still quite disappointed in the front cover photo though....I think the photo of Elvis with the monkey on his back is quite amusing, but personally I don't feel that it belongs on the FRONT cover...there certainly must have been a better photo they could have used on the front, and moved the Elvis/monkey photo elsewhere on the package. Just my opinion though...

I am glad to hear everyone seems to be enjoying the CD though....it makes me feel better, as I wait for my copy to arrive!!

If you don't like Elvis having fun and fooling around, you won't like this CD. If you do like Elvis having fun and fooling around, then you will love this CD

Well, as I said Albert, I've heard the show before so it's not new to me. I think it's a very funny show, but it's one I probably won't listen to very often because he does fool around quite a bit, plus he talks a little too much for my taste.

That's one of the main reasons I don't listen to the FTD releases of IT'S MIDNIGHT or DRAGONHEART too often....while I think Elvis is in fine form vocally, and the shows are quite good with lots of rare songs, I think he spends a little too much time talking and goofing around, when he could have been singing more songs! But, that's just my opinion!

I am still very much looking forward to hearing CLOSING NIGHT though!!

The tittle should be is " Having fun with Elvis on stage" and this would be better tittle then the one we have the talking album only.

but i do like the closeing night though.

and i will be getting this one this payday, and the movie soundtrack of
"double trouble", i am way behind on my elvis ftds cds anyway.

Hmmm, well I can sort of answer that, but I also have a question about that myself.

In the past, I have gotten my FTDs from either FECC (actually through a friend) or elvis.com. Both have worked out fine for me.

I don't buy every FTD. Closing Night is one which I intend to get, but just haven't ordered yet.

My question is, when ordering them after they are made available (i.e., how quickly the vendors generally get in their copies in relation to the release date is not really significant), who do you all recommend buying from for timely shipping? Or have none of you ever bought them after they've been out for a while?

Actually regardless, I may consider at least this time ordering from Elvis Unlimited. Here's why:

Well Ron, you should know that in all likelihood that means a few Unchained Designs, a few... Actually that detail didn't quite register with me like it should have, probably because I am used to reading that term so often here. Well, I'm curious now too.

I'm sure you're right that it is something they have put together. They include little b/w catalogues with their magazines, but this sounds a little more special. At first glance however, I did think this was an official FTD catalogue, that was maybe being included with all the Closing Night CDs.

Too much is never enough, Dessy.

It would be helpful if others could chime in about where they recommend buying FTDs from--if nothing else, by PM.

    PRECISELY NIGHT RIDER!!!

I know Bobby (Lonniebealestreet) and I have had many discussions on this topic, and I've always been of the mindset that, while it certainly is nice to hear Elvis in such a good mood, sometimes he seems to be in TOO MUCH of a good mood which leads to extended monologues (usually about a variety of topics which, if you aren't paying close attention, can be hard to follow) and lots of goofing around.

These are the main reasons, as I pointed out in my earlier post, that I don't listen to DRAGONHEART and IT'S MIDNIGHT very often! They are both EXCELLENT shows, and Elvis is in EXCELLENT voice, in my opinion. But there are just too many extended periods of talking for my taste!

So, unless FTD has cut out a bunch of the dialogue that is on the import CD releases of this show, I'm afraid CLOSING NIGHT will wind up being in the same category as DRAGONHEART and IT'S MIDNIGHT....great to have in my collection, but not often listened to!

    TCB!
    Mike
