Do you think us fans have gotten spoiled over the years?

hi guys, glad that we are back up and running . i was thinking to myself the other day. i was playing the ftd cd 'the impossible dream'. and there were some parts where i thought the sound could have been a little better. then i thought to myself... I AM GETTING SPOILED . back in the late 70's and early 80's i was thrilled to get the dorsey and sullivan shows on vinyl. then when audience recordings started popping up i couldn't wait to hear the muffled echoey sounds of an unreleased show. i remember when the behind closed doors 4 lp box set come out on the audifon label. i thought i died and gone to collectors heaven!!!. then as the years progressed and we had labels like bilko, ft baxter, 2001, famous groove.etc... we got treated to perfect sounding stereo outtakes that we never dreamed of hearing. the theres always me series was the greatest thing i had ever heard. then when we got all the soundboards and rehearsals, movie outtakes interviews etc. we kept expecting more quality products. and when a label put out an audience show most of us kind of passed it over and said ' when is the new soundboard shows coming. as much as we loved the new years eve 76/77 pittsburgh show when it came out, we were all dissapointed when ftd put out almost the same quality cd of it. if you asked me 20 years ago i would have said that was the best sounding live show i ever heard. and i'm sure most of you would have done the same. the point i'm trying to make is once in a while listen to an audience recording. or do what i'm doing, play some of your old original 'import' lps. the magic will still be there. it took me back to a great time in elvis collecting. a time when i never thought i would hear outtakes of jailhouse rock in binaural no less!!!!!. or ever thought i would hear elvis cuss and change lyrics of songs. it was a great time in my life it always gave me something to look forward to. i hope the well isn't running dry . oh well maybe if we are lucky in another 10 or 15 years outtakes of hound dog, don't be cruel and all shook up will be found . hey you can't blame a guy for dreaming. rock on.... Hey Simmerocks,
    How have you been?
In answer to your original question, 'Are we getting spoiled?'...my answer is not at all. Those of us in the age group of ......mumble, mumble.....were starved for Elvis material for a very long time. Some of the fans had access to the import releases, but some of us didn't, and now with the technology we have, ie computers and DVD's those that were fortunate enough to have the material are more than willing to share. Ernst and Co. have been a God send to the Elvis fan. Now we can go into the recording studio with Elvis and just for a while pretend we are part of the history making process of Elvis recordings. There are the knockers, and what a great part of the world we live in so that these people can have their say, but to the knockers, I would suggest to them, they put their Elvis CD's away for a few years and only have the medium of radio to hear an Elvis recording. That may give you some idea of exactly what it was like for a lot of us. O.K., you say, we had vinyl and tapes to listen to, but for me it was a case of having my vinyl and tapes 'borrowed' and never returned. Bad, bad....... Not happy about that one I can tell you......

I think many fans can / are taking much for granted.

    ---------------------------

I'm definitely not one of them. I remember full well how scarce & lacking things were back in the 80's.

Quality boots & the "Unofficial" bootleg label FTD are GOD-SENDS for hardcore fans; we've never had it better.

ENJOY while it lasts all, because no good thing lasts forever. Mark my words.

    -----------------------------

    Generally speaking:

Buy, listen, enjoy, smile, & appreciate ------------> and button one's lips when it comes to perceived FTD shortcomings / complaints. Anyway you slice it, FTD is better than nothing. Older fans already know this for a FACT; younger fans will learn this lesson themselves in due time.

you're right simmerocks...i think i've been spoiled alot with many elvis records, but as you said some ( quality ) are not as good as the good ole days,.... i think it has something to do with technology, with all that what we got now people would search whatever that is call 'rare' but they didnt think the quality of them,..the old days, when elvis still around.. IMO it had something to do with give the public the only best of artist recordings,..of course they would not release those with 'crappy' quality..what they wanted was fans getting the best of them ,so at the end they get the best out of it too ( money )..

I think we are spoiled, unless some of these live recording have been kept locked away in an airtight ideal conditions you are not going to get the quality of recorded sessions, so for me when you get audience recordings you have to make some concessions (h)

There can only be a limited amount of material out there, so we should make hay while the sun shines

yes we are spoiled and very lucky as well.

i personally prefer his live stuff - it blows me away.

so to have Elvis's live stuff restored from over 30 years ago - it is great
