I hope by the time you get this that your stubborn Dad has seen the light and evacuated. He should protect you as a loving father should. My prayers, thoughts and hope go to you Paola and everyone else who may be effected by this.

Both of my kids are in Austin, Texas and they are looking for bad weather as well. Bad enough that they have cancelled the football game Saturday between the University of Texas Longhorns and the Arkansas Razorbacks. So...please think about all of us!!!!
I'll definately be thinking of you Rosanne, and your family, and Gail and hoping and praying that you ride this out OK and that you come thru it safe and well with everything intact.
Words are all I can offer, but my heart goes out to you all.
Hey! I need my daily UTMom 20008 fix.
And don't you worry your pretty little head about some football game, they can always have it another time.

Here's the latest on the hurricane. We are 91 miles from Galveston. OK - now I'm "ALL SHOOK UP"...move over Rosie - I'm on my way

    HURRICANE IKE SLOWLY STRENGTHENS...

AT 400 AM CDT THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IKE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 26.7 NORTH LONGITUDE 91.6 WEST OR ABOUT 265 MILES SOUTHEAST OF GALVESTON TEXAS.

IKE IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 13 MPH. A TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST IS EXPECTED LATER TODAY WITH A TURN TOWARD THE NORTH EXPECTED ON SATURDAY. ON THE FORECAST TRACK... THE CENTER OF IKE WILL BE VERY NEAR THE UPPER TEXAS COAST BY LATE TODAY OR EARLY SATURDAY. HOWEVER BECAUSE IKE IS A VERY LARGE TROPICAL CYCLONE WEATHER WILL DETERIORATE ALONG THE COASTLINE TODAY LONG BEFORE THE CENTER REACHES THE COAST.

REPORTS FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 105 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. IKE IS A CATEGORY TWO HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. SOME ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS... AND IKE IS FORECAST TO BECOME A MAJOR HURRICANE BEFORE THE CENTER REACHES THE COAST.

IKE REMAINS A VERY LARGE TROPICAL CYCLONE. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 120 MILES FROM THE CENTER AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 275 MILES. AN OIL PLATFORM IN THE NORTHWESTERN GULF OF MEXICO RECENTLY REPORTED SUSTAINED WINDS OF 89 MPH AT AN ELEVATION OF 400 FEET.

THE LATEST MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE REPORTED BY THE HURRICANE HUNTERS IS 953 MB... 28.14 INCHES.

When it's all said and done "we ain't got sh$t left"!!!
Very poetic Gail!!! And yes, that's EXACTLY what it did for Katrina and Rita and they are expecting in Cameron Parish as well for IKE. Entire homes -- slabs, brick, garages - everything just pulled back to the water and homeowners are left with LITERALLY an EMPTY lot with nothing on it!!! My husband was done in Cameron after Rita in 2005 and he was just dumbstruck b/c of the destruction. ALL of the city of Cameron was gone - entire blocks of businesses and homes. The weather guys keep saying that this storm is a "surge-maker comparable to Rita" which scares the sh$t out of me. Good luck to you and please let me know how you faired.

    Liz,
Galveston and Freeport are already flooding and the storm is 16 hours out. Houses are already falling apart. We're 91 miles from the coast and they're saying we will get the hurricane winds from this little babe!! Go to the accuweather.com forum and read all those posts...those people are loving this!!! They're storm chasers and they're just eatting it up...frankly I think I've been much happier with my life as an Elvis chaser and not a darn storm chaser!!!

Gail, I've been watching the "storm chasers" all morning. I understand that Cameron is already underwater and parts of Vermilion Parish (my parish) is also underwater. This is absolutely nuts!!!!!!

I have just come from the grocery store and getting gas. There are BIG lines for everything, and I live in the equivalent of "Mayberry". It's already getting darker here and the winds are starting to kick up.
