I will do what I have done for the past 31 years. Listen to Elvis music, look through my photos and watch him on TV. Every year since 1978 our capital city ,ST. Johns , has had a memorial service for Elvis on the anniversary. They show his movies, play his songs and at 12am hold a candle light service! I have been there a few times but it is a long drive away and I don`t have a close Elvis friend to share it with. Our local news always remember him and every year for 30 years our local newspaper send out a tribute magazine just like they have done again this year. I have my copy!!! I am so proud how after all these years how my little part of the world remembers Elvis!
Do anyone else have events like this in their areas? Kim

It's tax-free weekend in Texas this weekend and the weekend before schools are starting - I'll be at work, but I plan to have my cd player loaded with Elvis - the Golden collection, and when I get home - around midnight - I'll watch my favorite Elvis movie - Wild in the Country.

Just pretend, I'm holding you, and whispering things soft and low.
And think of me, how it's gonna be and just pretend I didn't go

I will be attending a special one-off screening of That's The Way It Is at the Randwick Ritz Cinema in Sydney at 7pm on the 16th.

Check out the link before Saturday, the movie is given prominence on their website!

Probably have a quiet night in,watch Elvis on dvd, listen to the music, light a few candles....as I`ve been doing for most of my life. It`s really nice to think that there so many people out there paying their own respects to Elvis after all these years...hope you all have a really pleasant time of it.

You didn't see it when it came out on the big screen back in 2000? Man, I saw it 10 times then, and have seen it countless times since at home. But one more time on the big screen will be great. And the theatrical version is different to the DVD version (eg AYLT over the closing credits instead of the party scene), so it will be good to see the different bits.

No can do. I hate popcorn, the smell of it makes me gag, and it's the only thing I hate about going to the movies. If anyone sits near me with it, I feel like throwing up!

The Way It Is showing at the Ritz Cinema in Sydney was fine, except for the quality of the print.

It was scratchy, jumpy and looked like an old movie being shown on TV. Most disappointing!

However, they did show half-a-dozen Elvis movie trailers beforehand, which was nice.

One clown dressed up as Elvis, and was soundly booed by the audience upon entry.

The audience treated the movie like a concert, with applause at the end of each track, and a huge round of applause at the end.

They sold so many tickets they had to switch to the main cinema. It was about 3/4 full - not bad for a cold Saturday night in a very small suburb.

Peanuts also make me gag. Have to be plain.

They don't sell Jaffas at the movies anymore, so you can only get the M&Ms which are a Yank import.

OK...I have to ask ~ what is a "Jaffa"? At least you don't have to look at packages of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups with a picture of Elvis on the wrapper. This has to rank near the top of most classless items.

The tradition used to be to roll them down the aisles on the wooden floors of cinemas when I was a kid.

They're still available, but not in cinemas anymore.

Now I know what they are. We used to buy "jawbreakers" and roll them down the aisles as well, but the fun really started when the older people would go and complain.
