Thread: What would you ask Sonny West....

What would you ask Sonny West....

Tomorrow night I'm going to see Sonny West and Sandy Pichon at a place right outside of Houston. If you were going and could only ask him one question, what would it be?

I would ask if you had the chance to go back would you still have written the EWH book after all.

Sandi told me she was going to be in Texas wow thats cool

I would like to know what his absolute favorite happy memory was of a moment between he and Elvis.

I would ask: Was EWH written the way he wanted it to be and does he regret it now?

I really like Sandi. I would just like to hear about her memories of Elvis. I think Franny`s question for Sonny was excellent!!! Have fun Gail. Kim

I'm gonna miss your radio show since you're doing it at 2:00. This happening is from 3:00-7:00. Maybe you should have an afternoon show and then an evening show!! That should keep you plenty busy!

He has said in interviews on many occasions that EWH was totally different in the final printing than what he and Red and Dave wanted put in the book. We can all blame Steve Dunleavy for how that book turned out--not Sonny nor Red nor Dave.

Front cover of Elvis What Happened?

"Three Of His Closest Companions Tell Shocking, Bizarre Story"

Red West, Sonny West, Dave Hebler

    As Told To

    Steve Dunleavy

Are you saying His Closest Companions......didn't bother to read what they had said before it was published? They weren't given the opportunity?

I read this book a couple of years ago (about a year after I started listening to Elvis's music). As I'd heard/read of most of the stories/comments long before listening to Elvis's music, the book was not a shocker to me. I imagine it was to many who listened and loved Elvis before the release of this book.

My opinion (off topic question here I suppose) is that book was rather like reading an extended dull version of the national enquirer or the sun (tabloids)
Maybe the comments were true and maybe they weren't..I guess my personal opinion to sum it up......childish comments, poorly written....a way to make a quick buck.

The book "Careless Love" at least has class while addressing much of the same information.

I think I did read somewhere that Red, Sonny & Dave did see the book close to the final printing and they were all appalled at what Dunleavy had put in the book-which was absolutely nothing like what they wanted.

That's normal because Dunleavy was a tabloid writer---hence, the book has that kind of feel to it.

"His Closest Companions" did not stop the publication of the book tho they did not agree with how their actual words/stories were to be "presented in text". I find that odd in a way and then again I don't (trash comments sell better than having to actually think of a way to word something past a 6th grade reading level..I suppose).

Didn't Sonny/Red/Dave have any say towards how the book would be in the final printing? Could they not do anything bout it? I am not blaming them, because you sometimes hear stories of how books turned out differently than expected!

From what I've learned, no they couldn't because by the time they saw what was going to be in the book it was too late for them to contact Dunleavy and demand that he change it (not that he would've changed it being that he wrote for a tabloid magazine).

I would not ask any of the silly questions he has heard before, and has answered in his own routine.

Simply ask for his autograph, and tell him you are delighted to meet him.

See how he is, maybe talkin to him comes very naturally.

The thing is, be yourself when meeting a wellknown person. Always helps!

I always thought of him as a nice person, therefor my username from the past.
