it must be really challenging to control an ego for someone in Elvis's position..and he did well enough..now and then there's a noble man among us..
Once again I had typed something and once again it said I wasn't logged in, yet I was and post didn't show. Won't attempt to re~create my post, it was in regards to a book by Tony Sanchez (Up and Down with The Rolling Stones)..Tony was a friend of Richards for 10 years and was a heroin addict as well as Richards. Tony was a drug "obtainer/runner" for him.
Tony's book told stories of Richards etc..pretty much as horrific as the m/m's stories. When asked by Richards what he thought of Tony's book, Richards pretty much replied in his own biog. (page 292, should one doubt the words).."Tony was pretty accurate on the he did - he said - things that happened". "I considered him my friend, of course not anymore". Keith also had said about Tony's book.."You got half of it correct - you forgot the other half - mine".
My question in this with Elvis and forgiving...how did the m/m's ascertain Elvis forgave/would forgive them? Is that written somewhere (not m/m's book..that is not a reliable source to me - it lacks words of Elvis in the "what happened stuff") or did the m/m's figure Elvis was so forgiving he didn't notice the many knives in his back?
Do you really need to ask this?
Elvis, generally speaking, had a forgiving nature - often to a fault. He hated fighting with anyone.
And - judging by the taped phone conversation with Red (I still have my doubts that it's Elvis on that tape, though) it is obvious he felt guilty about how the whole firing went down. As well he should have.
Had Elvis lived, I am confident he would have forgiven the boys and taken Red and Sonny back. He would have forgiven Hebler too, but he wouldn't have been allowed back. And rightly so.
Getlo - cute'n'cuddly
I don't think he would have allowed them back after the book.
Forever Best Friends
I don't know about that Gail. I tend to go with Getlo on this one. Red went way back to Elvis' high school days and Sonny was Red's cousin so I think there was a good chance that Elvis would have taken them back book or no book.
As for Hebler....no never.

Personally I believe Red and Sonny would have came back at some point.I think the bond between those guys was real.Elvis and Red just had so much history.I will always say Red was Elvis' closest friend. He was there before the fame and money.A true friendship. It's true those guys did get to rough at times. However they were protecting Elvis.Im sure the constant onslaught from overzealous fans could be nerve racking.Dont forget also that Elvis and his boys loved to be the macho tough guys. There was always cockiness and arrogance in that group. From Elvis on down. They alll wanted to play the "badass".
I agree with you Jak with red west being Elvis' closest friend. I finished reading last train to memphis lastnight and the part about Elvis' mothers funeral and Red West father the next day was laid in the same place at the funeral home. Red heard of Elvis' mothers death and asked for emergency leave and was denied then he learned of his own fathers illness and he got it and was there on saturday and Elvis was there with him at the funeral home where reds father was at where gladys was laid the day before. No doubt these two were friends, they come from the same background, and i will always think red & sonny to were Elvis' bestfriends.
