Who's more at fault for the failure of Elvis' Marriage

Who do you think deserves most blame for the end of Elvis and Priscilla's marriage....Elvis...or Priscilla...

Sorry but I have to say Elvis...I think he really thought he could be with whoever he wanted or could sleep with anybody he wanted but as long as he come home to Priscilla it was okay...and of course, it takes two to carry on a relationship like that..I hate the excuses of the career ended it. sure that may have played a small role in it but it was farther deep than that. Prscilla imo wanted attention from Elvis whether it be sexually or whatever and he didnt give it to her..of course she was going to go seek that attention from men shes a woman....elvis her husband should have been there to give that attention to her....

They say Elvis never really wanted to get married. I guess it all starts with that.

It doesnīt take a genius to know why he didnīt give attention to her. If you have been in love at least for once in your life you know there are things you would or wouldnīt do when you fall for someone, we are not so different, really. You can remake the story to your taste all that you want but the facts speak for themselves.
I donīt think there was a real guilty here I see it more like something that was meant to end that way from the beginning for the reason I said above.

Itīs Priscillaīs fault! She left him. Even though Elvis didnīt do everything right in his marriage. He wasnīt the one who ended the marriage.

Both of them had their part to play in a marriage that was destined to end.

leaving a partner usually is the consequence of a relationship gone sour, not the reason for a failed relationsship.
so my point for blaming one of them goes to elvis. even if i take in account that elvis had a lot more of tempation to "fight" than pris i only can say it seems that he didnīt bother to fight it at all!

basically, i do not believe in "the right person" for someone but in the right way to treat someone with whom you have a relationship. love or marriage or any relationship is not a god given wonder out of the blue one canīt do anything about to make it work out (should that be the case analysts could fold down their sofas ... )

so it takes two for that game and if one of them constantly messes around and breaks rules but on the other hand - even worse - demands absolute love and loyality for themselves, well, then itīs only a matter of time before the end comes.

guess in the end pris had a certain elvis song on her mind - "i donīt care for no one sided love affair"

I think being married to a huge music star (from Elvis to Tom Jones, from Mick Jagger to Robbie Williams) is doomed to fail. And love for eachother has nothing to do with it.

You could say it was Priscilla's own fault, being so naïve that a star like Elvis would change his life completely to give her what every woman and relation deserve.

I'd say as answer to the poll: 90% Elvis for being and staying who and what he was, not staying loyal to his wife, give her what she deserved, 10% Priscilla for thinking she could change Elvis into a normal man (something Elvis, and other superstars obviously aren't).

I usually try to stay out of these but I think it is well known that Elvis thought it was o.k. to have girlfriends, but the woman had to be home waiting for him.

I say Elvis, but it reallity it takes two to tango. I'm sure Priscilla had some culpability in this.

I voted wrong...not "other" as I did but "both" for me.
Elvis and Priscilla had both their faults...but maybe they just start living their own lives far from each other

well i would have to say i think it was many elvis to blame although cilla was not perfect and i'm sure she had her part to play in the down fall but elvis wanted the single on the road life of a superstar but he also wanted the family llife when he came home i am surprised cilla stuck it out that long i mean how many people could put up with having people around all the time your man being away alot and knowing hes out there with other women but i think in some way she thought once they were maried it would have been different and she maybee thought she could change him but i think if cilla had stayed things might have been differentut no matter what its still i shame when two people who love each other can't make it work out

I choose both priscilla and elvis it takes two to make a marriage work and that wasn't the case in there marriage so they both are to blame for what happen.

    Bingo! You nailed it.

I voted for both as well for the same reason as Matt. That marriage was destined to end. Priscilla pushed and Elvis caved in.

I will say Priscilla. You may not agree with Elvis's attitude about women but she sold him a bill of goods that was all a lie. He never did. She made him think that she was the kind of women that would be happy with the lifestyle. Once she was secure in the marriage, and had his child, she turned into who she really was.
Lots of men of that generation had certain attitudes about women. And many were double standards yes. If you don't like it, you don't marry a person who has them, and you sure as heck don't make them think you are going to be ok with it.

Like most young girls do - they go into a marriage thinking whatever it is they don't like about that person "is surely to change after we're married". I think that's how Priscilla thought!
How many women here would let their husband's best buddies from work LIVE WITH THEM??? How many women here would allow their husband to go roam the country with their buddies and sit home and be happy about it??? Come on, we wouldn't do it - why would she?

It's hard NOT to imagine Elvis as perfect; how else could someone be THAT good looking, THAT talented, THAT generous & THAT charismatic

A very fair response Matt. I wish I could be that fair because I really think you might be on to something. However...... if you know me at all you what I'm going to say, so I'll keep my lips zipped. Who in their right mind leaves Elvis????
