I believe everyone is in control of their own life. Even by giving control to others, it is a decision we make and it is controlling our life and destiny. Submissiveness can be a form of dominance and control.

Not only what you say is very very true, Elvis was much smarter than he gave himself credit for. I believe had he had more self esteem in himself, he would have been able to make some different decisions regarding his career.
Elvis the "IMAGE" appeared to have tremendous self-assurance. Elvis the "HUMAN BEING" had little in the way of self-esteem and/or self assurance.
"More people today should see him not simply as a performer, but as an artist with a great soul."

I agree, Elvis did not have much self-confidence except in the handling of his music and the stage. He never could understand why he of all people had this gift or why people reacted to him the way they did. I don't know that even if he had been very self-confident, he would have been able to handle everything in his life as no other entertainer has had as much thrown at them. If there had been three Elvis' maybe? One for the music, one for the personal life and one for the business aspects.

I think its quiet obvious to anyone fan or not, that he didn't take control of his life when he needed to most.

"When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was a hero in the movie. So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times. I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend; without a song. So I keep singing a song." - Elvis Presley
