    Favorite las vegas engagement

What is your favorite Las Vegas stand Elvis held in Las Vegas.

Mine goes for August/ September 1974 ! We see the man in those shows more than we had ever seen before, theres so much new music introduced into the shows opening night, and most of the new songs stayed in the setlist through the entire engagement.

Elvis had those new 2 piece suit's he was sporting during that time, making him look bad as heck, and on a music level it was just as good as ANY OTHER engagement IMO.

That one was so magical aswell, aren't we so lucky to have over 30 hours of footage available on outtakes !!

& imo, the August 12th 1970 Midnight show is possibly is best ever live concert, and most dynamic musically wise !

There is no doubt the 69 engagement was kick *** but the band sounded rough, where they had just began working together..

Opening Night 1969 -- no question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No argument that his show and band got better with time, but HE was never better than this opening!!!!!!!!!!!!

    RIGHT ON BUDDY!!!

That opening night show on 8/19/74 was just fantastic....it is truly a shame, as I've said before, that it was not better received by the audience!! Just think about how his subsequent concerts could have been if he had been able to open up musically like he did that night!!

The only drawback to those shows in Vegas in Aug./Sept. 74 are the lengthy monologues and of course the infamous closing show...

It never fails to make me feel sick when I read about the opening night of August 74. We had our rooms at the Hilton, and everything was set with Emilio. Daddy became very sick and had to have his gall bladder removed, but they couldn't even do the surgery until the severe infection was gone. This all happened 7 days before we were set to leave. Needless to say..I was devastated. I felt so bad about the fact that Daddy knew he had really dissapointed me. I knew if there was a way in the world to go..he would get me there.
I will never forget my Mom telling me...."it's not helping things that he hears you in your room crying at night". It sounds kind of funny now...it was one of those "Mom" moments that you never forget.

The Vegas 74 shows were awesome– love to see a book cover all these shows with on-stage pics and concert reviews that would be amazing, any takers!

The TCB band was red hot;Elvis's monologues plus the leather 2-piece suits and throw in the karate moves– sensational!

I agree Mike we could live without the monologues but they were what made those shows just as interesting...but nothing surpasses the excellent music from the engagement imo !

    re

I heard a lot of good stuff of the december '75 engagement, and I think Elvis looked good. The 1976 engagement were also OK in my opinion, and Elvis looked better then he had looked in several months, but whether it's '75 or '76,I think all the engagements were OK,with ups and downs

To be honest, I have always said the December 1975 Las Vegas Engagement was the most underrated of them all. I've heard almost all of the show's from both '75 & '76 engagements as I have them on CD and both are filled with some very strong and entertaining shows!

In 1975 December, If you go back and look we get fantastic setlist, we hear You've Lost That Love And Feeling for the final time, Elvis was in a serious mood all shows mostly, his voice was out of this world fantastic!
