That's a great picture Gail. In all the years we lived in California we never got over to Vegas...only Reno and Tahoe...sure wish we had when Elvis was performing there.

Me too Carole! What people don't understand about Vegas back then is this....the "coolest" light show was either The Golden Nuggett downtown or the LV Hilton marquee. I think young people see the Hilton today and think "yuck...why would Elvis have appeared at someplace so dull and quiet."

One year we went across the street(wasn't that The Landmark?) to hear Bobbie Gentry. How many of us are old enough to remember her? Or, her one HUGE hit? "Ode To Billie Joe".

what i 've done is collect old postcards of the hilton from ebay. the memories. hoo boy! but i've gotta say, when i walk around there, it still feels the same. the makeover kept a lot of the original elements. thank God!

I am so glad to hear you say that. I haven't been back to Las Vegas since Elvis died. I'm afraid that if I do go I may burst into tears when I walk in the Hilton. What are some of the original elements that have stayed the same?

I have a lady friend that moved to Vegas in the mid '60's . I always said I'd go see her and I never did . {shame on me }
Goodness, when was the last time I was there ? About 30 years ago!
{ not when Elvis was there though} I have a cousin that goes every year . I'll have to tell him about you all.

I look back at these old pics and forget how HUGE everyone's cars were back in the 70's. As my kids say..."it looks like you were driving boats down the road."

no, that view you see is looking towards the front of the hotel. the suite was in the back of the hotel. he looked over the golf course. (it's still there) from the angle of the suite, elvis couldn't see towards the hotel front.

in fact... i think that view is from the 3rd floor pool area. the only way to be outside of a window and take a picture.

wow, i see the stardust and the riv in the distance. just to the right of the border, would have been the landmark.
and , the gas station that is right on paradise road? on the bottom corner of that piece of desert sand? IT'S STILL THERE.
