    Elvis:What is the "IT" factor

I have been talking to member Elizabeth Hollier from the great State of Louisiana over the past week after my post on "Elvis and the children" and his affect on really young children, most of you Guy's out there have grown up with Elvis..But what is the secret of his longevity 30 years after his passing, what is that special magic, with the Female Fans I understand the attraction but lets face it Elvis came along at a time when the Male population were not to keen on Teenage Idols yet he managed to achieve a phenomenol male following??

    Simple, lol.

Elvis' personality shines through. I sensed him from when I was a child, well before I was emotionally aware. I was drawn to people who were good people, as children are, it's a sense that children and animals naturally have.

As an adult, I know I am right! lol Elvis' voice, his eyes, his body language tells a story, that all can sense. He is a good man, a loving, generous and incredibly interesting man, with a great sense of humour.

    The "It factor"

Elvis had strong "Family Ties". adored his mother, daughter. When Elvis was growong up )i read) that he was a loner. He was kind to his friends, family members and perfect strangers. I just saw on another site (YT) that Elvis stopped a fight between a couple of guys in may of "77". He was picked on in school because he didn't fit in. He was different looking, acted different, was from a low to no income family, and looked down because of this. His talent brought him out of poverty, and he never forgot and wanted to give back to the people who bought his records, saw his concerts, movies ect, And all that made him what he is today..one of the most loved, admired, copied icons in the last century, and we will never see that ever again especially from todays' so- called rock stars.

Thanks for your replies, what you are all saying is it all boils down to a great Charisma, but there are other great performers present day and past who also have great Charisma as well, The only one anywhere near him was Frank Sinatra who still maintains a terrific following even today...So now we go back to what Elizabeth & myself have spoken about,it goes beyond him being a loner,or being bullied for being different,or loving his family. And so it goes on, I have spoken to many people over the past 50 yrs or so and no one can really tell you what it is..he is Family you all know that feeling?, how many times have you stood up for him in heated arguments about him, as though he was a brother when others have said bad unnecessary things about him...His mystique goes on..

Sinatra was missing the warmth that Elvis had....could you imagine cuddling up to Frank or that he would throw his arms around you the way Elvis did? Nooo, Elvis loved people and it showed.

"When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was a hero in the movie. So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times. I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend; without a song. So I keep singing a song." - Elvis Presley

My post did not refer to cuddling up to Frank Sinatra it was to do with CHARISMA!! and See See, living in NYC I am amazed you can talk about Frank not holding a Candle to Elvis, as he said on Welcome Home TV Show "We move in different areas" so we are getting off the original post now and entering the insults department which was not my intention..

I couldn't have said it myself any better that's what I experienced too when I was a child. When I heard 'Love me tender' I somehow knew this is/was someone special and not just an ordinary singer. And the last 2 years I'm discovering many sides of Elvis personality and music.

He IS family to those that love him ! I can explain it no further .
And, he's accepted as such. Because of or in spite of, all the stories about him; he remains the loving uncle, brother, etc. to the ones that care.

After all when I got pulled over on my way to Memphis when he died I told the officer my uncle had died!! Looking back on it now I don't think he really believed me with all those Elvis bumper stickers I had on my car...but he let me go anyway!!

Elvis had the "X" factor to such a huge degree that it's impossible to but it into words. "Charisma" is the word that can never be explained..you either have it or you don't. If you don't...no amount of money, clothes etc. will give it to you. By that same token...there are many handsome talented men~that do NOT have the "charisma". Gail, Carole and I are 3 that saw him many times in Vegas and we have all 3 had this discussion. Sitting stage-side...a few feet from him, yet it was if he was 20 ft. tall with a "light presence" around him. I'm sure that may sound strange..but it's true. It's as if he was not of this world.:

Its almost like some sort of magnetic force that draws others to him, but still is completely unexplainable.

It's 3:05 a.m., here, lol, and I'm awake having a little read. Yes, Elvis is family, an instant recognition of having to be near him, was what I experienced from around six (?) lol or seven years old!

I just wanted to kiss him (now, remember, I was a little girl, it was just how I felt)... No-one before or since, has affected me that way. He needed the affection and so did I!

I think that one of the reasons explaining the "IT" factor would have to be the naked vulnerability that is present in his voice when he sings a song. In the 50's, his voice wasn't nearly as deep as it was in the 70's but it still had that undisguised need or pleading when he sang. By the time he recorded in 1969 at American Studios, that same pleading that was noticeable in the 50's was a rawer, much fuller and vulnerable pleading that just seemed to get richer as he headed towards 1977.

I only became a fan a few years ago and that happened while I was
watching the DVD 'He Touched Me'. I was cleaning my daughter's room
and put the DVD on, just for some background music. First I was only
listening with half an ear, but after a few minutes what I heard attracted
my attention completely and forced me to sit down and concentrate on
this incredible gorgeous appearance and this even more incredible magic
voice. It was the day when Elvis touched my soul. My only desire was to
learn more about this man and to listen to his music. Since then I think
there were not many days without Elvis .
I cannot explain what it is, is it love, admiration, affinity...maybe mixed
with a little nostalgia and a longing for someone you will never be able to
    meet in person.....?
