    Elvis and the Children

This past Tuesday a group of my fellow Musicians and myself did a teaching session for 500 children in Hatfield Hert's here in England, we went from the early stages of Rock n' Roll through to the end of the 60's explaining the changes in styles. Then they were asked by us who was the man who passed away 30 years ago, and what was he known as, the reaction was amazing the whole hall put their hands up and shouted "ELVIS" and that he was known as the King, as we moved through to the 60's material we asked the question who were the 4 lads from Liverpool who were so famous for that period....wait for it!! only 4 put up their hands, these children were aged between 8 & 11 years old AMAZING.. what a lasting impression he left us all with and it looks set to go on and on....

I was born in england about 45 miles from where the beatles came from i was born in 1964 but i remember elvis more then a did the beatles, my dad is a big elvis fan to so i grew up in a house with elvis music around me. i didnt appreciate music from the beatles at that time but now in my 40s i can appreciate they did some fantastic music, and where one of the greatest bands in england at that time. but elvis to me was just fantastic and its great to hear he still lives on and on in peoples hearts even the up and coming children of today.

What a nice thing to do, ricky .I like to work with kids.
I'm also surprised that they "know Elvis."
A better tribute he will never find. I think he'd like that !

Most of us went through the Beatles period too, elvislady.
They had some very good songs, IMO.
Just a different era , but one that was appreciated as well.

I never really was interested in the Beatles. Elvis was always what I digged!

That is absolutely AMAZING!!! When I first stumbled upon this site, it was because I wanted to find the answer to the question "What is "IT" that Elvis has/had to make him still so revered after so many years?" besides the usual answers. I would seem that his stardom would fade eventually, especially after so many years at the top of everything while alive and now that he is deceased.

This example that you cite only confounds me even more. My answer is still a mystery as I haven't found what "IT" is that makes Elvis so absolutely unbelievable. I thought it was maybe just his awesome vocals combined with his magnificent looks. But there are too many other entertainers that could fill that position. Its something much more than that and I remain mystified and still searching!!!
