Elvis and his two army buddies, Robert Ivers and James Douglas, form a musical combo during the off-time while they're in the army in Germany. With their singing they want to make enough money to open up their own nightclub, once out of the service.

When the G.I. - who was making a 300 dollar bet for himself and his buddies by spending the night with Juliet Prowse, an ice-cold nightclub dancer - is suddenly transferred to Alaska, Elvis finds himself being the one to replace the departed soldier.

Trying to help out his friends and win the money (which they can use), Elvis takes on the bet and while dating Prowse he falls in love with her.
While dating each other and seeing the sites, Juliet Prowse notices Elvis' buddies, who are making sure Elvis lives up to the terms of the bet.

At this time Elvis is babysitting the son of his buddy James Douglas, who has gone to get married to his sweetheart.
The babysitting part does not work out well (very funny) and Elvis decides to call Prowse, hoping that she can help him out.
She invites him and the baby over to her appartment.

Under these very innocent circumstances Elvis succeeds in spending a full night with Juliet Prowse. His army buddies, staking out the place, believe he lived up to the terms of the bet.

The next day, during rehearsals for an Armed Forces show, Elvis' Sergeant is talking about Elvis' success. Juliet Prowse hears this and obviously thinks she was just part of a worthless betting game.

When James Douglas and Sigrid Maier get there with their baby, they tell Prowse that Elvis was really babysitting to help them out.
Juliet knows she's made a mistake and also that she's in love with Elvis.

Right after the show they plan to get married.




Filming began on May 2, 1960 and lasted till the end of June.

Working titles were: "Cafe Europa" and "Dog Face".

Elvis and Juliet never went to Germany for their scenes. They allm were filmed in Hollywood. Doubles were used for the location shots.

Elvis broke a bone in his hand while practising karate during the making of "G.I. Blues". During the "Tonight Is So Right For Love" sequence you can actually see how swollen his hand is.

"G.I. Blues" reached No.2 on Variety's weekly list of top-grossing movies.

This is one of those Elvis movies that I've never loved. But I do enjoy watching on occasion. Good script. Excellent supporting cast and a great soundtrack. Movie reminds me of many Hollywood "service" comedies made down through the years. Everyone seems to be having a good time.

This was the very first Elvis movie I saw. Also the first album my mom bought me too! I love this movie, but I love all his movies too!

I always thought this was an enjoyable "family fare" film, clearly designed to have Elvis appeal to a much broader audience after his Army stint. Unfortunately, the success of this vehicle and Blue Hawaii cemented Elvis into the formula movies he made throughout the 60's, some better than others. As far as the music goes, again, I think the plan was to appeal to a wider audience and we have very pedestrian songs. What's everyone's take on the version of "Blue Suede Shoes" featured in this movie? I've read critical reviews for years, but I always thought it could stand on its own next to Elvis' original version. Thoughts?
